Hi All,

I looking to run an upgrade most likely tomorrow on the website. This will be phase one of some downtime. The upgrade will come with a few minor issues that I will try to resolve quickly.

I have been running some tests and the site runs pretty smoothly when running without ads but there is some work to do with the advertising on that greatly effects performance. I have put this in the hands of the advertising partner to improve and perfect and if we don't see an improvement will be looking at a shift to another advertising partner.

Phase one should only require a small amount of downtime, and consist of me backing everything up, uploading new version and upgaded theme.
Fixing a few small things

  • Net result is like system will change a little
  • Other performance improvements

Generally speaking you won't see much difference on your end.

Then in the coming weeks I will need to choose a new server environment, backup and move us over there, that will take a bit longer simply due to the size of the database and file system. Its a necessary step though, as we have reached EOL of the version of Linux we use for the backend, and I will need to run up a newer LTS version

Please bear with any bugs that may come up on this older version as they are related to PHP and then I will also open up a forum node for reporting new issues once we get to the new version of xenforo and server.

All good @Dan but for the life of me I wish you’d speak English & not Swahili when you explain all this to us.

We're (Dan) is ugrading silvertails to a new server as the current one has reached EOL (either eagle of London - or End of life)

The new sever? Dunno yet but it needs a good LTS (Long Term support, or lineout, touch, scrum) so Dan doesn't have to do all this again in the near future.

Like everything computer related, don't get angry about the occasional bug.

Dan will setup a place for us to mention issues we have - and he expects everyone will ignore it and start a new thread in the rugby league forum everytime something less than perfect happens.

BUT to some this post will invariably mean.....:
dce is overpaid, all our signings and retentions are terrible, and we won't win a game next season.

Sorry mate, I don't have a text to crayon convertor tool
'ouch'...!

pretty much spot on

Didn't happen today for two reasons

Investigating whether i do the move of server at the same time and second I'm currently sitting in emergency at Sydney eye hospital with a shard of metal in my eye.

I don't think they specialise in webserver upgrades and migrations mate.

lol. Exactly what I was going to post.

But as usual you had (at least) one eye on the prize.

Hope it's out and you feel better.

Home at about 2 or 3am a few bits of metal removed and a bunch of dye in my eye so I looked like I had several jaundice.

Now have to take care of it for a week had some bloods done this morning and back to normal as far as I'm concerned. Eye stings and the wife thinks I'm winking at her all the time but otherwise life goes on

Good news!
So what happened - were power tools involved?

Squint protection is a lie....

Nah I was drilling some holes into the rolled aliminum beam on the outdoor deck. And some bits of metal had got behond my safety glasses and about 4 hours later stabbed into my eye. Let it go until it was too much to handle, went to GP, then optometrist, optometist found it but couldn't fix it, so he shuttled me to emergency because one bit was right near the centre and embedded in like a nail and starting to rust
