When the competition expanded in 1995 the importance of the Club Championship was watered down. It now only applies to the Flegg, Ball & Matthews junior comps.
Stength across the club is an indicator of success and solid management. The early (stress that word) indications are that we are getting stronger through out the club.
I have done some calcs to come up with an unofficial Club Championship table. Competition points in 1st grade are multiplied by 5, Premier League by 4 and so on down to Matthews by 1. Only teams with a presence in all grades are included. The two merged entities are included. For lower grades I take the average of the points earned by the two separate teams.
The results are listed below. The position of Newcastle is helped by their surprising results in PL (given injury issues) and not so surprising efforts in Flegg (given junior base). The most interesting aspect is the lowly positions of St George-Illawarra, Penrith and Canterbury, teams that have historically been strong throughout the grades.
