Journey Man
I turn 35 in a few weeks time. Thanks to a ruined knee (ACL and botched operations) I haven't been able to run properly for several years and the knee is a constant risk of dislocation. I'm carrying 25kg more than I should.
However, even in that parlous state I'd back myself to be able to rush for 46 metres in an NRL game, especially if I nabbed 30 easy metres off two kick-offs. The defence in between would probably kill me given a complete lack of fitness.
However, the thrill of being able to run onto Brookvale Oval in the famous jersey and sheer pride and willingness to prove myself worthy would be more than enough motivation to at least GET IN THERE AND HAVE A **** ING GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If only I could wind the clock and knee back ten years and have the luxury of a fulltime career on $200,000. I'm absolutely certain I could have given a better account of myself than this current patsy that lets us down week after week after bloody week.
Not that I'd have been in the side ahead of Menzies, Gartner, Kosef, Carroll, Gillespie or Toovey.
