Uate Injured

Uate
I know he had his troubles this year but I thank him for the past few seasons.
The Souths game last year at SFS he was on fire and in 2017 he was back to his playing best.
Sad to see his time with us finish like it has
Wish Him all the best in England

I'm beginning to think Barrett is a bad luck charm with the number of injuries Manly have had over the past couple of years

With you 100%, regardless of errors, there was never any doubt he was giving it absolutely everything he had. I do think we will miss his carries out of our own end, he always put his hand up for the tough ones and ran it hard

Only 25 rounds this year so Uate missed out by 3 rounds 🙁
Have we been mathematically ruled out of the finals? If not then surely that's an extra 3-4 weeks.
It won't to happen, but it does (once again) show the ridiculous of the NRL's rules. Given that rep week falls on the week with 10 weeks remaining it means nothing unless finals are included or it is such a serious injury that it will run into next season, and if that is the case how can anyone accurately determine when the player will return. Likewise any players injured at the end of the season are unlikely to reach the 10 week limit but could miss out on an entire off season of training and will be expected to be back fully fit and once the season starts.
So, once more it's a grey area for the NRL to rule on, it does nothing for player welfare - players will still be rushed back for finals or the start of the season, or encouraging clubs to release/encourage their players to play rep games. :banghead:

when you think about it he's lucky he got his contract sorted before this happened, maybe food for thought for Jacko Hastings. I can't see getting a season ending injury in reserve grade being a great advertisement for your services for next year!!

He's going to be missing the beaches next year in chilly Huddersfield. He should go alright over there if he can stick it out. Did a reasonable job for us, had a couple of shockers, but he's not Robinson Crusoe there. Looking forward to seeing some fresh talent on the wing next year.

I just read the original nrl.com article as 12 rounds base.
Hard to include finals as no Club would know how far they would go into that.

It's another half arsed rule from NRLHQ 😎

The Uate case is perhaps not as straightforward. Manly are likely to be given the option of seeking a replacement for the English Super League-bound flyer from outside the club for the rest of the season.

The Fijian suffered a season-ending syndesmosis injury during the Bati's loss to Papua New Guinea at Campbelltown on Saturday night.

The Sea Eagles can now decide whether to pursue a short-term replacement for Uate, which can be finalised after June 30.

Fairfax Media understands the NRL is unlikely to block any Manly application if they want to sign a like-for-like replacement from outside the club.

"We need to discuss whether we will go ahead and do that," Sea Eagles chief executive Lyall Gorman said.

Uate's injury was deemed to keep him out for the remainder of the year and hence falls under the NRL's criteria for salary cap relief provided for hurt representative players out long term.

The 30-year-old will take up a three-year contract with Huddersfield next year, meaning any replacement will only be with the Sea Eagles for the last 10 rounds of the season.

The Australian Rugby League Commission earlier this month ratified a plan to allow clubs to spend up to $350,000 outside the salary cap on a pro rata basis for the value of the contract of an injured player stemming from a State of Origin, international or All-Stars fixture.

The clubs' gripe with sending players away on representative duty and not being afforded compensation if they were injured came to a head last year when Raiders hooker Josh Hodgson ruptured his ACL on World Cup duty for England.

It's sad to say that's the last we've seen of uate. I for one always enjoyed watching him play for us and are grateful for what he brought. We were using Matt Wright /Parker before him.... Sad he won't get a send off but thankful for his services

Thanks for your time at Manly Aku. Your hands weren't the best at times but at no stage did you drop your head and basically give up and that is the Manly spirit.

Good luck at Huddersfield.

Now, as to who replaces him this year and next....I shudder to think what its going to be like if its Parker or Suli out on that wing. Neither have much pace and TBH, Parker doesn't offer anything and Suli is lazy. I hope we can either pick up someone decent or have the brains next season to make Jade Anderson part of the 30 man squad (unlike the monumental stuff up of not having a backup hooker in the squad this year)
