Two more years for Des?!

Des Hasler set to sign new two-year deal as Manly Sea Eagles coach, reports Danny Weidler

By Zachary Gates - 24 hours ago
The Sydney Roosters take on the Manly Sea Eagles in round 1 of the 2021 NRL season.

Manly Sea Eagles coach Des Hasler is set to sign a new two-year deal with the club this week, Nine NRL reporter Danny Weidler has revealed.
Speculation has been rife around Hasler's future at the Sea Eagles as he's now in the final year of a three-year contract and began season 2021 with a 46-4 drubbing at the hands of the Sydney Roosters on Saturday.
But Weidler said the dual premiership coach was this week set to sign on until the end of 2023.

"I think it's really safe," Weidler said on Nine News when asked by presenter Cameron Williams how safe his future is.
"There's been a lot of speculation in recent times about Des Hasler and Manly, but he has a handshake deal with Manly which he did before Christmas and that's going to be crystallised in a contract which will be announced as a new two-year deal - and that will be finalised in coming days.

"We're going to see the 'mad professor' at Manly for another couple of years and that'll be made official this week."

From the SMH:

Apologies up front. The SMH will not allow me to paste the article in full.

"Des Hasler is about to sign what will be his last ever contract as a coach, but he won’t be lost to Manly when it expires...

...The contract negotiations have been ongoing for the best part of a year because of what is at stake; this is Hasler’s legacy agreement. The parties have agreed that, once the coaching contract expires at the end of 2024, Hasler will transition into an off-field position with Manly.
The specifics of that role are yet to be nutted out; it could be in the form of a coaching director or consultant, although it will be clearer what the club needs from him once a successor is appointed.

It means that Hasler will continue to be an influential figure on the northern beaches for years to come, even once his time with the clipboard has come to an end. Having turned 60 last month, the former NSW and Australian playmaker will have only three more seasons to add to the two premierships he has already steered the club to during an illustrious coaching career."

Hot off the buzz express.

12 months bois.

The truth on Des Hasler’s future at
@SeaEagles
- club has rejected his bid for new 3 year contract. In a compromise, club has extended his deal for 12 months only. Prevents huge payout.
So the article in the smh is incorrect?

Please tell me Des is not going to be our salary cap manager...

I hope Des is bringing one of the junior coaches through, showing him the ropes with the plan to hand them the reigns while remaining around to help out in a less full-on capacity. Hopefully that will see the next coach transition to the role easily and from within our system. Go Manly!
