I just heard some sad news about a Manly legend. Having recovered from a staph infection following a total knee replacement a few years back, Tom Mooney suffering from advanced Alzheimer's/ dementia is now in a home, I think in Ballina.
Its a terrible, terrible disease and I don't know anyone that isn't impacted by it in some way. Stay safe Tom .... best wishes to wife Cath.

Tom was an absolute class winger in his day - sad news, unfortunately Alzheimers is far too prevalent these days it seems to happen far too often with ex footballers.

I remember that game at Brookie when we couldnt make the semi,s and we flogged one of the teams that were still in contention and he scored 4 tries. I think it might have been against Cronulla. Stay strong Tom
It was C-B. Our second win of the season against them (12-3 at Belmore, 23-11 at Brookvale*) and they went onto narrowly lose the GF to Saints.

*In a post-match interview, after scoring those four tries, Tom Mooney was asked how he thought Manly might have gone if they had made the finals. His response, “They wouldn’t have touched us”.

Toms Great Attribute were his Dynamic Durability and record has it that he never played less than 22 games a season and his Great Ability to find the try line all the time
Tom was strong and had a great swerve and turn of Pace and Twice scored 4 tries in game .
Tom was a Prolific try scorer and the top six Manly try scorer of all time .

I remember reading in a RLW magazine that Toms favorite team mate and player was Bob Fulton

all the best Tom. He is a very successful businessman. This must have happened rather suddenly.
Yeah it certainly did - I had a brief exchange of greetings with him only a few months back - I had an inkling that the dreaded Alzheimer's might be happening, my dear sister has it.

Sorry to hear about your sister feathered friend
It just goes to show that this Terrible disease affects people on and off the field
Some people get it and some dont including NRL players
A specialist friend of mine believes we are all prone and at the mercy to our genetic family tree

If anyone is interested in a movie that is (from my observations), a very good depiction of dementia and its impacts on a loved one/s, I highly recommend the movie 'The Father' starring Anthony Hopkins
