NRL .. Free and Fox ... 568,000
AFL .. Free and Fox ... 404,000

What is that AFL one at the top , broadcast level or something ??

To get an idea of how much the number of viewers is worth ,,, the article says that Fox paid the A-League $56 million a year based on the 2014-15 average viewer figures of 81,000 .... that figure is now 30,000 ..... When the current deal expires in a couple of years .... there will be doom to soccer ....

This is why GreenTurd doesn't give a tinkers cuss if fans go to the game .... yes it would be nice and should be encouraged .... but the money is in the gogglebox .... instead of the camera panning to the crowd for a reaction ... it will zoom into somebody's lounge room .....

Ive been saying for years “ virtual crowds”, don’t worry it’s coming.

Rugby is on its knees , and Castle isn’t helping.

A League suits a small audience.

Agree both look in deep deeper trouble from a funding perspective.

Not surprised BBL is at the top but is having issues attracting crowds as well, attendance was well down in last year.

For all the fake hype about AFLW, like it being top story on ABC news sports section and on Fox Sports news too ahead of Super Rugby, A-League & NRL 9s, look at these ratings from yesterday. No mention of NRL9s women on Fox Sports News this morning or the Offsiders. Offisders didn't even mention the mens NRL9s.

NRLW 9s Fox League
Final Dragons v Broncos 170,000
Warriors v Dragons 89,000
Roosters v Broncos 64,000

AFLW Fox Footy
West Coast v Fremantle 62,000
Gold Coast v Richmond 51,000
North Melbourne v GWS 41,000

Super Rugby Fox Sports
Brumbies v Highlanders 40,000
Hurricanes v Sharks 35,000
Sunwolves v Chiefs 19,000

A-League Fox Sports
Wellington v Melbourne City 20,000
WSW v Newcastle 14,000

I think it's time they entered a bidding war for toddy...

Interesting supercars only has fox numbers there. Half the season is also available on free to air. I think i read last years number were up around 300k with Bathurst, adelaide and Newcastle doing the best.

They have a good model where they own the broadcast roghts and licence the broadcast. Whilst they do give fox some control, it allows them to ensure rhe important rounds reach their audience.

With mainstream tv shifting to online, its time to really take control. By 2030, streaming will be the main way to watch tv.

Fox is nervous about players like Amazon/Google moving in with their deep pockets and tier 1 infrastructure.

Rugby is up the creek and they should be the first to own their broadcast... or just go away all together and stop diluting thr NRL playing stocks 😉

I’ve been a cricket tragic for years (and loved the BBL). But after we got busted cheating in South Africa (yeah, I know they all do it). But it made me sick that we were cheaters. I haven’t watched a game of cricket since.

Yep I used to love watching the cricket - especially the first morning of a test but these clowns are overpaid wannabes with boundaries 50 metres in, playing on a cement track with no bounce or movement against bowlers who can't bowl bouncers - bit like the Nine's really except tiggy cricket! I haven't watched a game or an over probably since the Waugh's retired.

Rugby is in a race to oblivion with A-League ... with the soccer boys a neck in front ....
