Turbo to Superleague?

I know you’ll love dealing with me again Mark, but from what I’ve bothered to read of this thread,99% of STers havent said the club was shopping him around. The odd person has mentioned the TomT/Seibold dynamic, but most people were quite aware it’s a Tom move
You’re like a dog with a bone aren’t you.

Now we’ve had a disagreement you’re going nit pick on everything I say.

Funny how some get their jolly’s.

Tom’s form in the last 3 games is confirmation in my view he still has plenty to offer when playing with confidence depending on the injury gods. Commercially a long term contract for Tom is a big risk due to his injury history. I know he loves this club but it’s business and if he can’t get the deal he wants from Manly then he can’t be criticised for considering the ESL. Equally the club can’t be criticised for being nervous and trying to minimise the obvious risk.

This nails it.

Given his history we cannot pay overs, but he deserves a “ decent “ contract.

If he feels he can get 1.3 million a year in Super League then go for your life Tommy and thanks for the memories.

At best I think he’s about $600-$700k a year and the difference goes to another hard running forward.

I agree.

I see two options for Turbo. Option 1 is to stay with Manly on $1.2m next year and a very likely 50% cut for 2-3 years beyond. Option 2 ESL at a very likely $1.0m x 3 years. If I was his Manager or Father, given our club circumstances and Tommy's form, I would be advising him to take Option 2.

ps. Remember ESL contracts are denominated in Pounds Sterling so $Aust $1.0m is bang on their Marquee player range.

The only thing I reckon is he’s getting married soon , and the usual reason for that ( these days ) is kids. Yes I know not for everyone but I sorta think that’s part of it for him.

And if they are going to immediately start a family they will not want to be 12,000kms away from family.

I think ( based on your figures ) he’s more likely to take 2.4-2.5 million ( 1 + the 2 year extension ) than 3 million for that reason only.

Personally I think people are not setting realistic expectations if they think Tom will be on 600k.

According to the 2025 NRL rich list (I know, I know but somewhat indicative) there are 104 players on 600k or more.

Tom will have a haircut but I think we are looking more at 800k.

That is 300-400 discount in the average oh his current deal and probably represents 200k less more than he'd get elsewhere.

Must admit I'm losing interest in supporting this club. The crazy decisions and mistakes they have been making consistently since 2015 leaves me cold. This latest issue with Turbo. Whether he stays or goes, its saying there is something terribly wrong in this club at present. They've let numerous top line juniors fly from the nest for also rans. They've stuffed up with the salary cap. Brought in an amateur coach. And now a wooden spoon coach. Now there's some nasty smell behind the scenes that causes DCE to ignore future offers from the club and Turbo who would never leave this club without a serious reason, now looking elsewhere. The club at present is a basket case. Until it gets its act together I've lost interest. Penns should have accepted the money offer made to them, I suspect. the club's value will diminish in years to come unless something happens.

I feel your pain @Bearfax. Seen dry spells before but not quite as bad or as prolonged as this one. We all have opinions about players and quality of coaching / management / decisions but seriously this lot takes the cake. The results over last 12 years I think confirm this. Obviously changes required across the board. Apart from players, not sure there will be too many other changes.

Re Turbo, reluctantly I am quietly hoping he follows Cherry out the door followed by an early retirement from Jake and move him into the coaching ranks. Time to move on from these three. Like continuing to go out with a girlfriend that you are not rapt in and also knowing nothing will come of this. We have the young talent there right now albeit 1-2 years early. Who knows? One way to find out.

@Bearfax

Like all I feel your pain too.

You only have two ways to fix it otherwise we just accept it for what it is.

1) you exit the sport & never watch another game , maybe pick a successful AFL club or something.
2) you become a casual watcher , casual supporter. No memberships , no Kayo , no merchandise and only bother watching a game if they get into the finals , and then without much interest anyway.

One more thing is , despite all the raving , ranting & arguments on here , we as nufty supporters cannot change a single thing.

A couple of years ago I had 6 months off Silvertails , and honestly one of the best things I’d done for a while.

Without reading the doom & gloom I found myself enjoying the games better ( still at times frustrating ) and particularly when not involved with ( live ) the game day thread.

The same goes for all social media , I’m disassociating myself with all the Manly Facebook groups , it’s just doom & gloom and everything with different opinions fighting & threatening because you had a different view.

Maybe that might help you enjoy games more.

Understandable to have some doom and gloom outlook when the titles get into the far and few sequence but just for a bit of a reality check , when was the last time the Broncos for instance won the comp - 2006 ,
Almost 20 years ago , Dogs , was it 2004 , Eels - 1986 ?
Especially the Broncs as an example , one of the best resourced and powerful clubs going around and the others not lacking in most financially based facets
Storm the template in many respects and their big 3 or 4 and highest paid previously in the form of Smith , Slater Cronk and now Munster , Grant , Hughes and Pappy .
Most have been regularly available , really good value for money and consistently top performers
Panthers a combination of this success model and strongest junior base in the comp
Manly , very poor return unfortunately and of course with the likes of D C E , Turbo and Jake for a long time now
Just no comparison and if your elite and highest paid players can "t provide value for money and be available consistently , really going to be up against it success wise
Fair enough to be a bit indifferent with Manly 's success outcomes for a while now but many other sides , just doing it as tough or much worse in direct comparison
