Trial Games

Only a trial I know but the cowgirls look pretty good vs Melbourne. Massive improvement on their performance last week. Should be a cracker match 8th and brooky.
They’ve got a great roster that can do anything. They’re the enigmas of the competition…can win the comp or come last!

They have some good cattle (pun fully intended) but I honestly think that losing Val and Feldt will hurt them more than they may have thought it will…

And the effect of losing GoJetSki is obviously ongoing… 😁

For me, the determining factor is Todd Payten. He is no nonsense and very intense. He will either get that side hungry or they'll tire of him and the season will go completely arse up!

I liked the look of Toby Rodwell in the first trial game for the Rorters, Robinson I think has a big decision to make on if he goes with Townsend or Rodwell with Sandon Smith in the halves.

Jamie Humphreys single handedly ripping St G a new arsehole in 2nd half .Not sure why and .I'll never understand why we let that bloke go esp to bloody Souffs ,does anyone know ?
Okay , let’s say your Jamie Humphreys

Manly “ Jamie , we want to sign you for 3 more years , however for two of those years you’ll be back in NSW cup, then IF Daly doesn’t go any further you’ll be our half back and we’ll upgrade your third year to decent dollars “

Souths “ Jamie , we’ll sign you for 5 years and you’ll be straight into the half back role from year 1, you’ll also be on XXXX dollars with bonuses depending on how we go “

Jamie , “ why the **** would I stay with Manly , seeya I’m off to the Bunnies “.

It really comes down to that , had DCE been going I reckon they’d have thrown the kitchen sink at him.

Played well with the minutes he got Humphreys, I think he left for a better chance of playing first grade.

The bit that I find hard to work out with him leaving was

1. The club seen Arthur as a ball playing lock but have never played him there.
2. Humphreys had versatility as a backup hooker and halves cover.
3. The Knights were chasing Arthur, so there was room for Humphreys to stay.
4. Watching the trials the club is very short in the halves, Joey Walsh didn’t play though.

It’s done and dusted now with Humphreys now playing at another club, Joey Walsh is the one we need to get behind and hopefully the recruitment team made the best decision.

MFB your right no doubt ,its just that to me he looks like a footballer very much in the Keiran Foran mould not flashy but well skilled in all the areas and tough .I feel the club are kind of looking for dare I say it a flashy DCE style of 1/2 and maybe Walsh will be that ,I just think you could go way worse than to have kept Humphreys for iether 9 ,7. or 6 back up and then elevation .down the track at sensible $. Then build a balanced team around him with maybe brooks .Anyways cant cry over spilt milk ,except for the fact the other one I think is in the same category is the Dogs 2nd rower Preston that we didn't want .I just feel we put alot of effort and $ into some of these juniors and I get you cant keep em all ,but gee we let a few go and in my eye's pretty easily.Surely a few deck chairs could have been moved around ? All academic now anyways

I think Piakura has the potential to be the best edge forward in the game. He'll take the baton from Liam Martin at some stage.
Interesting that you compare him to Liam Martin who is in my opinion a guy that is huge on effort areas like kick chase and the 1%ers that go unnoticed to many outside the team. This is the exact area Piakura lacks in my view. It’s rare for players to gain these attributes if they don’t have them naturally over their career. I worry he won’t reach his potential due to this.

the comparison is more to do with his line running and bruising defence. There’s two types of back rowers in the game that excel at the moment - one is the lean, fast line running edge forward (Liam Martin, Briton Nikora) and the other is the beast with brawn (Kikau, Olakau’atu). Occasionally, you get a combination, like Angus Crichton.

You make a valid point re Piakura. He’s played 33 FG games, so he is still very raw and learning.

He wanted to play NRL as simple as that

You're right that it's done and dusted, so there's probably no point going over and over it… BUT, I would also add an extra number to your points:

5. In his NRL debut - which turned out to be the only NRL game he's played so far - he was excellent. Man of the match performance, where he did everything he was asked to and then some. Not every young half has a debut like that. Granted, he'd already signed to Souths by then, but our coaches must have known the potential he had…

If Piakura puts it all together there will be no stopping him.

Madge just putting a rocket up him atm

But it’s not about deck chairs it’s about ( for Humphreys ) an NRL starting 7 position , THIS YEAR !!

I’m sure we’d love to have kept him
