Tof Sipley

From NZ Herald today;

The immediate concern for the Warriors after the departure of Maiu’u is replacing his spot in the top 30 contracts, either internally or externally.

Webster said “our plan is to fill that [top 30 sport] with local talent, not outside, at this stage”.

Warriors fans are no stranger to seeing players depart New Zealand shores for Australian clubs. Some of those have gone on to grow into top-quality players – like Eliesa Katoa for the Melbourne Storm.

Toff has akways been this player. Its just so rare for our forwards tohave so much possession , tackle so little and have the opposition backpedaling. All of our forwards looked like it was 2021

I know people love stats but poor possession rates rarely get mentioned especially early in matches when your trying to set the game up

Even went for a few repeat sets . Just wow

But we still seemed to have a limit, once the game has opened up we dont revisit our clinical game again . Its done thank goodness seems to be the attitude, lets play

Will Toff step up now that Paseka is gone for the season or will Brown take the spot?
For me yes, his running game is what the team will miss without Tent, bends the line Sips.

Though his defensive efforts haven’t improved since last season. A good number nine will catch him out like Tuapiki did at Mount Smart if he doesn’t improve his mobility.

For this reason I always thought Sips was better as a starter. Slower game, with Mr Cleanup in Jake being less gassed and able to make up for Tent and Sip's occasional deficiency in defence to start. When Sips has been coming on, he's into a game where Jake is more tired, and oppositions are running players with leg-speed. That's not Toff unfortunately, and he's no match.

Aloiai, if he keeps playing like he did tonight, is far better off the bench.

I just have feeling. Seibs might be looking to go more mobile anyway, the way AOA played tonight I can imagine either start Jake or Jazz up front when Frog or brown are back.

I see Duck as a more stable member of this team than some I think mobility and speed in the middle is needed to balance this side out.

The lack of mobility of our forwards is our achilles heel. Apart from Bully, and Burbo to an extent, our pack is slow; powerful, strong but in trouble when we are defending for too long. The starting six against Canberra was lucky it had so much possession, yet it was still nil-all after 20 minutes.
I'm not sure we have mobile replacements in our NSW Cup team, but we need to give Bully and Simpkins as much game time as they can endure.
I don't want to knock Burbo who is a reasonable first grader, but if we are to go to the next level we need a more mobile/talented second rower. Preston, the local junior now playing for Canterbury, would be ideal imo.

Haumole seems to go ok.

Yeah but he was not great against the warriors and it really impacted us (imo)…

Not sure whether he was 100% against the warriors but he really seemed to be lacking intensity (and effort towards the backend of the game) in comparison with rounds 1 and 3 where he was huge for us… obviously he was a beast with the ball last night but he also made some important momentum-stopping tackles that were big-effort plays…

Momentum (6 again killed us) just thought he was unfairly left out in the post.
