Tinkler pulls plug

The Tinkler deal included him clearing their debts of $3-$4 million and a guarantee to pick up any income shortfall to ensure their annual income remains above $10 million. He showed his intentions in relation to player recruitment with Snowden & Idris. He was the real deal.

Don't forget that is a similar deal that Max paid to buy the Mighty Eagles.

I think the Newcastle Board were nuts to let him get away.

It was a good deal even if it wasn't anywhere near $100million. if you look at us and Souths we didn't go for anywhere near what he's guarenteeing.
However he does seem like an egomaniac. If it's true that he wants to pay Idris a million a year (or even 330,000 a year) and Snowden $4-500,000 then he's of his head. There is a salary cap and most coaches want to be consulted on who they're picking up. Plus Tinkler gets control of the NRL license, and it's also a bit dodgy that he owns the Jets as well. Still it's only the Knights.

Considering who Newcastle have in the front/back row and in the centres, i'm pretty sure Rick Stone would have been happy with these aquisitions.

If its true that Tinkler only tops up to 1 million after all sponsorship, mechandise and gate takings its not a huge offer. Most clubs are 12 - 15 million and the nrl gives about 4 leaving 8 - 11. He could be buying the club for 500K a year or less.
