Former captain Moses Mbye has been granted permission to speak to rival clubs despite having a year to run on his Wests Tigers contract, telling the club he does not feel he is giving them value for money.

Mbye, who stood aside as captain in 2021 to allow new recruit James Tamou to take the reins, has been with Wests Tigers for the past four seasons after starting his career at the Bulldogs.

The Tigers released a statement on Wednesday night confirming that Mbye had been granted permission to discuss his playing future with other clubs from the 2022 NRL season.

Mbye is currently under contract at Wests Tigers until the end of 2022 and the club said he had not asked for a request to be released from his contract.

At least he is honest by stating that: "I'm not ashamed to admit that the club is not getting value for money out of me". You will never hear Cherry utter those words that are on every one's lips.

Welcome to Manly mate!!Half the team aren't providing the club value for money either.

I heard this yesterday and thought if we hadn’t made sone of other stupid roster moves (Foran in particular) Mbye would have been a good pickup. Good fb cover for Tom, can play in the halves if needed, slot in at starting Centre (better than both ours), utility value at 9 if required. Tgey said on Fox the tigers would likely pay most his freight and may only cost 200k a season.

yep agree he might not be a world class player but he is better than half our roster and has played origin.

He would instantly improve our roster, he is better at 9 than crocker

get it done and sack Parker

If Tigers can pay at least 50% of his salary next year, he'd be a great pickup.

Can play fullback, centre, 5/8 and hooker which is what we need in our squad.

He's not exactly a superstar but also won't disgrace himself in any of the above positions.

No thanks. He is leaving because he is coming off the bench for 30mins. Why would he want to come here to play reserve grade when Tom is back?

I’ve never rated him. He is one of those players that is just ok in about four positions and not really good at any of them. If he was happy to play backup to Tom only then fine, but it’s a no from me.

While it’s clear that Mbye is chasing more game time, The Daily Telegraph’s Phil Rothfield revealed that the senior player was unhappy with how the club handled a knee injury he picked up last season.

“I’ll tell you why he’s unhappy at the Wests Tigers. Last year he had a knee injury. The physios and head of high performance sent him to go get scans and it came back clear so they were basically putting pressure on him to continue playing,” Rothfield told NRL 360.

“They strapped him up and he battled through the season, his form wasn’t great.

“At the end of the year they went for more MRI’s and what that showed was 15 pieces of floating bone in that knee so he then had an arthroscopy, they were removed and he was finally ready to come back this year healthy.

“But he wasn’t happy with the misdiagnosis, he wasn’t happy about the pressure put on him continually last year to play and whether this is a spillover from that, I don’t know.”

I’d have him at Centre in a heartbeat mate. Coverage in other areas is the added bonus. In fact I’d rather have mbye and get rid of Walker.

Bear in mind apart from the minimum Foran is on a fully funded TPA for two years.

I know he is only ok in those positions but he is better than what we have in all those positions.

he is better than our current centre’s, he is better than our current winger, he is better than our current hooker options, and he is better at fullback than Walker.

he may only be ok at them but if the money is right why not?
