First Grader
After 7 games we now have a good sample of where the team is.

At times they are brilliant, when on their game and can devastate teams. That is becoming lesser and lesser now.

The indiscipline is rampant in the teams game. It cost us the game tonight and we just play really dumb at times.

Our pack really concerns me. They are honest plodders and apart from Oka they are not even close to being the standard that we need if we are to improve as a team.

The elephant in the room is DCE. We know he is moving on and until he announces what he is doing the team will continue to fall, its an unwanted shadow hanging over the club and it needs to end!!!

We have some significant problems.

The Turbos are really beginning to cost Manly, Jake is fading as a player and is no longer an 80 minute player, Tommy is always injured and that just upsets the rythym of the team. Young Ben is not first grade standard!!

Our roster and salary cap need a total overhaul. The imbalance of the cap has meant that the positions that we really need to strengthen have been ignored and we have fill ins that will never win us a premiership.

Some hard decisions will need to made I believe before the end of the season, starting with the coach and whether he is the guy to move us forward. Seibold is a nice guy and I think we need someone ruthless to coach our team.

We need to move on some of the deadwood in the squad. Our forward pack needs an overhaul, we need a dominant prop, a hooker that controls the ruck and a lock forward that is faster and creates. We are behind in all these areas compared to the top teams.

Now that we know DCE is moving on, its time to invest in some alternate plans especially while he is away at Origin.

We are not likely to challenge this year, maybe fall into the 8.

After so much optimism after round 4, its all gone pear shaped and the club is in a hole of its own making.

The leadership of the club need to arrest this slide. Tonight was always going to be tough, making a team play on a 5 day turn around after a trip to Perth is really unfair. The game was there to be won but our untimely errors cost us every time we got close.

Our season is at a crossroads, its time to get it right or start moving guys on!!

How many more losses before we see changes? If we aren’t going anywhere this season may as well give guys like Patolo a crack & see what they can offer

Mate I think our season has well and truly past the crossroads. It’s well and truly down a highway to hell. That was totally embarrassing tonight and an insult to the fans who once again turned out in droves. The Melbourne game was bad but those sometimes happen. Last week was worse because we showed nothing in attack. But this week!!’ This week, we’re at home, we’ve got it all to play for and we turn in that pile of horse ****e of a performance.

The problem with Seibold, or literally any Manly Coach™ under Scott Penn is this fundamental problem:

1. They must include the "favourites" of the previous generation, that they didn't sign.

2. They must be either mediocre, or finals-bound every year, or else Scotty gets angry and sacks them.

3. If the club makes a stupid mistake, like signing a stabber or putting a rainbow on a jersey, it's your fault, and your job to clean it up.

4. If you make a correct, but unpopular decision, bye bye.

5. If you dare try a rebuild after faliures, say goodbye to your job.

If we replace Seibold with New Manly Coach™, they will have literally the exact same problems with roster and cap until the new generation comes through. Credit to Seibold, he actually has a long-term rebuild plan. The issue, is that it's two years too late.

I agree change is needed though on Patolo he hasn’t done anything worth noting in NSW cup this season.

I would prefer they looked at Sykes and Dunford, both move laterally better.

Such a shame…..the season started with so much promise & has been derailed in 3 short weeks! How the fu<k did DCE not envisage this happening when he came out with the news he was leaving on live fu<king TV? I’m so fu<king pissed off & disappointed. All this $hit should have been kept in house until the end of the season. Manly should bite the bullet & release him immediately. Start rebuilding now & prepare for next season.

It’s playing out exactly how DCE wanted it too, his filthy at not being released to join the chooks mate

Agreed, this team can do with a "Bulldogs" type of cleanout which should have occured once Barrett was sacked but definitely after Hasler was sacked. We have the same imbalances in the cap, meaning we can only buy players that no one wants to fill the gaps.
You can only have a cleanout if other clubs pick up the freight on the people you want out, and this takes time.

While we didn't execute well our resolve was strong tonight, and it was a better effort than we gave against Cronulla.
Most things went Illawarra's way:
Jurbo knocked out early.
100-metre intercept try by Sloan
Down to 12 men when Sippers was marched.
Brooks denied a winning try
Lost the penalty count, at home!
The stats show we ran for more metres than Illawarra.
I actually thought we'd lose by more. Down our two premier props, although TKO has taken over well. And no Turbo.
All in all, I expected a loss. But if Turbo is back next week we will beat Penrith

Well put!

May have been mentioned elsewhere but I wonder if Guac is already showing signs of burnout in that pack? He is having to carry a huge attacking load in the team right now and the last two games he seems burdened by it.

Changes will be forced now for the Penrith game. Aloiai for Jake. Hopefully Bully is ok. Can Simpkin play 80? If so I’d use Jazz or even Arthur at 13. Toff and Burbo are on the chopping block to be dropped - if we had guys to replace them.

But DCE is so smart. Just ask Kevvie Walters. He gushed that a few times last night.

Yep Tevaga looked so much better for us playing lock/prop then hooker. Simpkin could do it but I think Siebold will have GCKT or maybe Muagututia debut of the bench
