The Tommy T effect

We all know as Manly supporters just how much impact Tom T makes to the Seaeagles, in every possible way, including a confidence that rubs off on every player in the team.
But what does this mean in points ?
Well I have always thought he is worth 2 tries and maybe saving 1-2 .....but there's far more, including giving his defensive wall up front, much needed direction maybe even more resolve.
As a bloke who likes stats only to a degree, as they don't often reflect the game and dictate the outcome, this is an "interesting" stat....on average Manly score 4 extra points with Tom T ....and Manly are 10 points better defensively with Tom in the side.....
As ab example this makes a 20 - 8 loss into a 24 - 22 Win.
I guess it kind of makes sense, that if you stop the opposition scoring points you gain confidence, are much more in the fight on the scoreboard and most importantly, give yourself the opportunity to WIN the game !!
Just thought was worth a share....

After last week i am concerned that he may go straight from a hammie to a shoulder injury if Fifita continually gets thru our first line... he went absolute beast mode against the knights...

Ponga, who is a reasonable defender, actually made a half-ars*d "whats the point" effort on one occasion...

More than one occasion and so did his mates

I'm no mathematician but I question your result...

Here's my result: 8 plus 4 = 12. 20 minus10 = 10.
So isn't it a Manly win 12 to 10?

I just think it is sad, very very sad .. that we have 30 blokes on the payroll, with their hand out every week, in a 17 man a side game ... with the worlds best coach ... and we totally rely on just one bloke being available to win games ... Dear Lord ..
Except for last week... I'm pretty sure we won without Turbo last week. But I put that victory down to the seventeen blokes who had their hands out. Having the worlds best coach didn't hurt our cause either. Good Lord, imagine if Barrett was coaching the side.

Good point feathered friend .

Perspective time .....
Great coached teams like Bellamy from the Storm are not reliance on just one player
Many times the Storm have lost not just one but lose 2 and 3 KEY players and Bellamy still gets them up to get the job done

IMO....
if the team relies on just one player to drive them

It means the rest of the players are just passengers

We dont not want a team of passengers

We want a whole squad of contributors . Players that step up and get the fcking job done !!!

Tommy is a great player

But we want to become a great team and not just a one great player team

To do this we need quality players that are able to perform without Tommy holding their hand

We need to re evaluate our roster at the end of the season

We are a one team player man.. we need to buy someone like nico hynes as a good fb replacement or someone of the like

Except they didn't go very well in 2008 with C Smith missing.
Despite still having Slater, Folau, Inglis, and Cronk all in their prime
PLUS a further eight (8) Internationals
Oh yeah, Plus another 3 Origin players!

If Smith had got injured more often we'd have a better idea of how important he was to Storm.

That why he gets paid the big bucks!

2008 was just one game .
Every team goes through a loss every now again
But they do not capitulate and have a record of being a one man team

This season the storm have no slater , no , cronk , no smith and they are just as dominant

I'm not expecting much difference with Turbo in the team.
Especially for his first game back.

The rest of the team isn't pulling their weight and Tommy running out won't make much difference.
I just hope he gets through the 80 minutes and is able to play next week, I'm expecting him to last anywhere between half a game and 3 weeks then be out for the season.
