The old warhorse

Agree with what you’re saying but I think it’s harsh to label a Brown as a plodder. Sure Brown has some deficiencies in his game but he generally plays at a frantic pace. Yes Brown gets belted in some tackles but makes a lot of ground before the collision with the pace he runs at.

Brown might not be a plodder, but for all his running hard at the line, 9 times out of 10 he just gets smashed and doesn't even bend the line.

I love the guys enthusiasm and the pace he plays at, but his "off the back fence" charges are more likely to see him off for a Cat1 HIA than they will produce a line break.

Actually 9 times out of 10 he does cause the defense problems & does not get smashed! If anyone is a plodder it’s Jrbo! Apart from defense offers little in meters gained, post tackle meters & line breaks. I think the world of Jrbo but he & Brbo are nowhere near Trbo for impact.

Jake had 2 trys, 2 try assists and 3 line breaks and 1 line break assist in 2024.

Brown on those same measures had 0, 0, 0 and 2.

Brown does average just over 1 metre per run more than Jake though....so sure, lets call our most loyal and passionate a plodder...

Yep & Jake also plays the full game whereas Brown plays much less so obviously Jake has more meters & opportunity. Loyal & passionate doesn’t mean he’s not a plodder! He’s certainly not a Cam Murray or Isaah Yeo or Jason Taumalolo. Anyway my opinion only.

Metres per run doesn't change pending your minutes

 what he said.

Lets be honest, if he wasn't Jake and was just another forward we'd bought from another club a year or two ago and he had no speed, was constantly getting called by the refs in defence and made only small amounts of metres compared to the others in the pack ... most of us would be calling him a plodder.

Have you seen Taumalolo for the Cowboys in the past 3 years? Dropped off hugely as well. So much so everyone was suss when he went off in the Post season Pacific championship saying where has that been?

Like me they must be feeling older and slower…

Stats like these don't reflect the quality of his runs. Several matches last year he put the entire team on his back and carried them back into the contest with hard running and quick play the balls.

Oh I agree, I'm not looking to bag Brown. More responding to the comment on Jurbo "appart from defense he offers little".

For mine the majority always skew far too extreme one way or the other.

Jakes impact is down and we want to see that improve. For mine beyond some specific training the most obvious fix is to bring his minutes down from 75+ to around 55.

However Jake is still hugely impactful for our team in defense, leadership and the unnoticed stuff like leading the team (and nearly the league) in push support plays and devoy runs). That sort of unselfish play engages defenders and creakes space for more attack minded players.

But people seem to narrow his game to run metres and tackle busts and go "oh I love him but he's a plodder or sheet etc etc). In my firm opinion Jake is one of our most influential players and if he went down with a season ending injury (touch wood) we dont make the 8.

So two things can be true, we need an uptick in impact and he is still a very influential player.

Mate each person has an opinion. I don’t believe if Jrbo wasn’t in our team we don’t make the 8. I’m not denying he’s very influential at all, but I just don’t think he has that impact he used to. Start him at Prop & shorten his minutes so he can give his all without fading out. I’d love him in the Toovey role after he retires as assistant coach / trainer running on & barking at the boys!

Jake is very much respected for his Loyalty and Passion by all of us feathered friend
The fact is Elite High salary cap paid payers score 2 tries , create 2 try assists and make 3 line breaks per game
and not just per season .
