Three clubs have been fined a total of $350,000 for breaching the National Rugby League's concussion protocol, the league announced Monday.

Gold Coast Titans ($150,000), Newcastle Knights ($100,000) and St George Illawarra Dragons ($100,000) were all severely penalised for "failing to follow concussion rules" during round three.

"These are, by far, the heaviest fines ever proposed by the game for concussion breaches," NRL CEO Todd Greenberg said in a statement.

"That is how seriously we take it."

"Proposed" is one thing, implementing is another.

Clubs do have a chance to state their case (only right.)

Dragons coach Macgregor was saying "It's a jaw so nothing to do with the head."

I mean...ok the Jaw is part of yer noggin (but I see what he was getting at) but the replays made it looked like he was ko'd a bit higher.

All three clubs should be hit. Looking at replays....guilty!

Yep a real no brainer....

I couldn't believe what McGregor said about it being his jaw...you understand that it's not hard to knock someone out with a blow to the jaw area, right?!

Honest to god, every 'instant' knockout I've seen while umpiring taekwondo has been a strike to the jaw area - usually with a heel, but a fist will do it just the same!

can you be knocked out with sustaining concussion ... serious question

I wouldn't think so - if it's hard enough to knock you out, you're going to feel it for a while after.

We have a 48 hour exclusion policy after a knockout, that's a blanket rule. Sucks if you get KO'd by an illegal technique and therefore win the fight, you're out of the draw anyway.

Concussion is caused by the brain hitting the skull.

It doesn't matter where the focal point was, it's the movement of the brain with enough force to squish the protecting fluid away momentarily.

Being hit with a football can concuss you, heading a ball in soccer can concuss you, being hit in the jaw is the classic KO.
Our brains are too vulnerable in contact sport IM😵_O

$50k is fine but if they were serious, then each player who was made to do a HIA, should be made to do an MRI/Cat Scan the following day to show up any bruising of the brain.

Then we would need to worry about exposure to the magnetic field and Xrays :tmi:

But Greenturd hasn't addressed the Parra SCAT Scam yet :wondering:

Yeah it's good that it's coming down hard but you can bet the parasites will continue to rort the system with the full blessing of lord greenturd.

The movie Concussion is proving to be one of the most important and confronting realisations of our time.
I applaud the crack down, and hope the clubs do actually cough up the dough and learn the lessons.

We saw the club took Turbo off the field against the clubs, even though he seemed ok. Seems like we take the concussion testing quite seriously which is good from a player welfare perspective.

I'm glad the Manly trainer insisted on taking Tommy off on Saturday for a HIA, despite his protests. If he hadn't have, me thinks Manly would have copped a similar fine :whew:

Tommy is too valuable long term to risk.

Exactly my thoughts... What a stupid excuse from the dragons, im guessing marys never watched a boxing bout before... There's a reason its called "the button" when someone lands flush on the jaw/chin area... Lights out instantly

Wait until we get caught.

The player that also got hit in that tackle by Myles, (Bowen), was also in a bad way. Tommy T went off but the Cowboys trainer let Bowen stay on the field. The Cowboys should also have been fined. Where is the consistency???
