The Next Rebuild Begins

As a Chargers fan I still fondly recall when they were angling for a new stadium in San Diego before they moved and had Boltman front the local council. Perhaps Igor retired too early...

Who cares how old they are? if they are crap they are crap.

When we are on, we can beat anyone.

+ Broncos in Brisbane
+ Melbourne in Melbourne
+ Beat Parramatta 54-0
+ 1st half versus Titans
+ Beat Sharks at Shark Park

etc etc etc.

Comes down to many things. Commitment, effort, fitness, energy, culture, coaching, accountability etc. All of it.

We aren't as far away as people think in my opinion. If Barrett stayed on, I really feel he'd be in for a much better year next year.

Teams very, very young
1. Tommy 21
2. Jorge 26
3. Kelly 22
4. Walks 23
5. Suli 20
6. Elgey 24
7. DCE 29

Average age of the backline 23. They could almost stay together for 5-6 years

8. AFB 22
9. Api 25
10. Marty 28
11. Thommo 29
12. Siro 25
13. Jake 24

Average age of the forwards 25.

14. Fainu 19
15. Paseka 20
16. Tanginoa 24
17. Carty 23

Average age of our bench 21.

Actually, the average age of that whole team would be 23. Here is the current average ages (so we could both be getting younger, as well as being the youngest team in the league by some):

Team (2018) Average Age
North Queensland Cowboys 27.49
Cronulla Sharks 27.27
Parramatta Eels 27.10
St George Illawarra Dragons 26.88
Wests Tigers 26.77
New Zealand Warriors 26.4
Melbourne Storm 26.38
Sydney Roosters 26.38
Canberra Raiders 26.16
Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs 25.99
Gold Coast Titans 25.97
Newcastle Knights 25.74
South Sydney Rabbitohs 25.72
Manly Sea Eagles 25.43
Brisbane Broncos 25.42
Penrith Panthers 25.19

That's why I'm saying consistency is the key here. Keep it together as long as possible. Build something special. Just need the right front office and coaching.
Geees Ryan you must have some spare time on your hands. I'm not interested in most of the flogs with egos. Just interested in smart footy players not showy athletes

Just a bit of balance here mate 🙂

I am prepared to call that the youngest team Manly have ever fielded ..... and without any old heads joining ..... will still be younger than any other team next year .....

We need to replace at least ....

Croker, Lane, Myles, Brown, Lussick, J. Wright, etc ..

Our recruitment Officer must be busy .... Oh wait ...

Just lost to the chooks and newy too

I love your optimism but I believe we are light years away. Since July 8 last season we have played 32 games and won 11 we are poorly coached, seem to lack fitness and mentally weak but first and foremost we are thin on proven first grade players we have a heap of potential first graders but you know what they say about potential it means they are no good yet.

100% correct. Results and records do not lie. His appalling coaching record will never leave him or us.
Another season of that imposter for a coach and we'd be getting 3,000 people to a game and we'd be even closer to the end.

Would you be happy with Ricky Stuart as Manly coach? Because that is basically who you are describing:

His teams:
- Have a decent season here and there
- Jag a few upset wins where they look like world beaters

But:
- No apparent mental toughness and discipline are demonstrated by his players
- Lose games they shouldn't, so do not make finals most of the time
- Have not won a premiership since inheriting a champion squad at one of the richest clubs
- Blame always lay elsewhere

Now with Barrett the sample size is much smaller, but I have seen enough to suggest he is not the coach to guide us to title #9 for similar reasons.

We just signed Elgey

Give your self an upper cut Trent lol

Yep. It’s absolutely impossible for a bloke who has played 15 tests for Australia and coached for three years to identify a player of interest that will help his teams weaknesses and have his manager contacted. If however he had a badge made that identified him as an actual recruitment manager it will all fall into place for Trent. Our young players have talent. Someone found them. What a joke.

Manly has a lot of young talent both in the side and waiting for a chance. Probably too much and not enough old heads.Unless the whole f... ing place has gone mad the players we will try to recruit will be playing IN THE NRL WITH EXPERIENCE!! . The coach does video analysis of every other team , watches other games and keeps his ear to the ground I hope.If he doesn’t know the type of player he wants then gold help us. ... but why be surprised ? The spoon is on our doorstep .

We don’t need someone at this very moment with contacts at Junee and Wee Waa, we need some with f.. ing yes and common sense.

By all means going forward get a guy who knows his stuff as it’s important but if we haven’t had enough junior talent right now and the last couple of years I’ll give it away.We need NRL hardness.

I know talking is not doing and the Penns still need to show they are making serious head way. But PR is essential if you want to influence people. My early career was in advertising and marketing. You must sell the product. That's what Manly hasn't been doing for a long while. You've got to get the fans on side and good PR is a start. If you don't, the other side has free rein to release all sorts of propaganda, much of it based on nothing more than rumour. Shouldn't happen, but the reality is that people are influenced by propaganda positive or negative. Mind you, you cant afford to then not show action. That can make the situation twice as bad, because it confirms what the other side is saying.

and therein lies a lot of our problem .... we have a lot of not too smart players in our team .... they mostly aren't switched on ... we need clever & a bit hypo .... we have too much dumb and slow

You don't need to be stupid, to be myopic. I consider DCE as quite a smart young footballer, but I sense his perception is distorted by his emotional bonding with Barrett. Even the smartest people can fall for that error of judgement.
