The gap between NRL teams.

Well said... I’m Manly through and through... I just get sick of our supporters playing the victim card on here. The world isn’t out to get Manly. The mess we are in as a club is our own fault.... nobody else’s. At a time where we should be taking ownership of our errors, all we do is blame someone else.

Well said. The gap is no bigger than in the 70's 80's or 90's just that we are on the wrong side this time (the basket case side) and blaming everyone but ourselves isn't going to solve the issue. We got ourselves into this mess and it's up to us if we want to get out of it.
First step is stop whinging that every decision someone takes is to injure us and make a choice the nrl isn't changing we either want to be a big club or we keep going like we are and I doubt we will see the next tv deal.

But like I said, I hear what you’re saying.
Appreciate the decent response mate. Manly fans have always had to be that way over the years, because every other club was jealous of our success. They slung mud on us and it stuck, like the "Manly buy premierships garbage" but unfortunately it has caught up with us. The death riding on us has finally started to eat away. Unfortunately you are right about the club not taking ownership of their failings lately but that is the Penns fault and no one elses. However there is an agenda agenda and bias against Manly because we don't have a massive known supporter base, it is not hard to see that a good old Manly kicking article in the Telegraph sells papers and when we are the top they muck rake to find **** to bring us down with. The bias is real i can assure you. Our biggest worry though is when we become irrelevent and people don't care if we win or lose, thats when we will be in real trouble.

once again cheers for the honest reply.

Such a dumb argument.... It’s like saying ‘Joe Bloggs would have been better than Billy Slater if he didn’t have a missing arm’. Billy Slater’s greatness as the better fullback is in no way clouded by the fact that one of his competitors had diabetes. The reality is Stewart did have diabetes which contributed to him not being the better player. Too many one eyed, ignorant supporters on this website (not aimed at you in particular). I’ll call it as I see it. Like I said yesterday, any neutral vote would give 90% of the vote to Slater... I wonder why that would be.....

So if you disagree with facts then you are dumb, 1 eyed and ignorant.

I think its more a case that you are just an asshole

Well said ..... however you forgot the bit about let us abuse and ridicule the only bloke at the club over the past decade that has had the cojones to stand up to the club and say resource it probably to NRL standard ..... we have called Barrett a whinger and a sook ... bugger me .... he has more balls than the lot of them ......

100%...

I said it's a dumb argument.... I didn't say you are dumb. Apologies if you are offended.

Surely in regard to any comparisons of Stewart and Slater , we are just conjecturing on the level of greatness as of course both in their own right will always have the rightful claim of greatness but fair enough of course to give one precedence over the other . Just based on longevity and subsequent performances , Slater will tend to gain most favour but again we are comparing two all time greats of the code here with truly wonderful abilities and attributes . If i had a choice about which player to have had at Manly during their careers , i would always plumb for Brett 100 % however .

This debate about the full backs started when I said in a comment that '(Billy) is possibly the best fullback ever sitting in that private jet'. *I wasn't even comparing him directly with anyone*. Someone took opposition to the opinion (even though I said 'possibly'). Next thing you know, the debate got a little heated. Apologies for any of my comments that may have offended anyone.@:)

The counter argument however is if he considered it such a disadvantage and impediment , why did not Baz have or express similar or the same complaints and grievances last season or indeed 2016 . That he should raise or give so much attention to the issue now and when they does need to be some explanations or fact based excuses for the team"s drop off in intensity and consistency this season does seem a bit sus .. Certainly concede he had a tough run in 2016 which in the main was really not entirely of his own doing despite some very questionable early season team selections . No doubt also has had a few tough off field issue related challenges this season but again just seems like he is trying to deflect attention from some of his own deficiencies and inconsistent team efforts and results . Hardly seems a case of standing up to the Penns then more just trying to offer some unrelated excuses for some of the team "s on field efforts and questionable tactics this season . Again no doubt many Manly supporters can sympathize with the guy and that he tries to be a dedicated and committed coach but again trying to deflect attention away from his various short comings is no substitute for facing up to some very average on field team performances and over all results.

Yeah... maybe he will be named as the coach for the Manly team of the century in coming years. We’ll all take a moment of pause and look back on the Barrett years with a new found admiration. Instead of seeing him as a dud coach who underachieved with a good squad... he will become a great coach who had BIG balls... a mans man who stuck it to the establishment. A Northern Beaches Robin Hood who was much loved by women and the players both.

Cam Smith elbowed Matt Ballin in the face multiple times and guess what? Nothing happened, no penalty, no charge , .

I believe Ballin was actually penalised for this, but he luckily managed to avoid being cited for headbutting Smith in the elbow multiple times.

This is becoming like Groundhog day ..... He did express his grievances last year ... you will recall the delay in negotating his extension ... he wouldn't sign until certain guarantees were made .... this year when those staff and conditions weren't honoured he gave his notice ....

They are the facts

The other coaches of the past decade didn’t have the time to stand up to the faceless men at the club... they were far too busy playing in, or winning Grand Finals.

Mate ... I understand losing games makes one mad .... but to become irrational to the point of where hatred clouds any sensible reflection requires a very long long off season ......

Maybe you have a better insight then me but i certainly did not notice him expressing such grievances last season . I thought the delay in finalizing negotiations was money related . And what he tendered his resignation in July this season with the season well advanced and Manly "s spoon position looking quite precarious . Just co incidence ? Anyway looks like we may need to agree to disagree on this one as Ground Hog day is monotonous enough as it is .

We don't need to disagree ... facts are facts ...

The other reason that he didn't openly express concerns last year was that Fulton was there and effectively performing the roles of Football Manager, recruitment officer and Salary cap manager .... and we have seen the results of that exercise ...

When Fulton left this year all those roles had to then be done by the existing coaching staff in addition to their normal functions ... you will recall at one stage Cartwright was named as doing the recruitment ..... and before the "excuses" mantra is sung by the demented ... it is simply a fact that he was promised staff ..... and to this day they still haven't been provided ...

I seriously doubt that if the team was travelling better this season that Baz would have been even considering tendering his resignation in July , resources or recruiting issues aside . Can"t see any problem with Hoss Cartwright performing any recruiting duties , may not have the status or gravitas of a Fulton, but shouldn "t have disrupted his role even if he was not entirely specialist rated . Again did not appear to be a serious enough issue when the team was doing better again last season, just seemed to have some prominence this season with the side performing quite indifferent .
