Boooooo, not slater, not the storm not the roosters but the NRL and its true partners. Who am i kidding boo the lot of them i say. The NRL let the game down in a big big way. Slaters lack of accountability for his shoulder charge comes down to one thing. channel 9
Melb had a team in the final, sydney had a team in the final but poor old qld , the 3 rd wheel in a tacky romance story only fit for a bold and the beautiful season. But queensland had billy and scam smith , but be honest billy is the poster boy for all things pharocial north of the border. but then billy did a naughty and the ratings bonanza hit a snag. Not just because billy wouldnt get a send off but because queenslanders vote with there remotes, whenever they feel ripped off , and poor billy would have only been suspended because of a NSW conspiracy and thats not good for business. Marketing business not footy
So billy was saved, qld turned on the tv to admire there champion and well everyone else voiced there disapproal. I rarely feel sorry for billy. He is a competitor, classic white line fever kind of guy that all teams love to have. He is probably a nice guy but his tactics, methods are grubby and are as classless as booing a champion. The leg twist on hayne in Origin as he got back to marker some years back was as dirty as a les boyd eye gouge. Top bloke or not he is polarising on field. As fans we are not expected to know that he is nice off it as we dont see it. Its that simple so he is a villain
But the NRL set there champion, there game, on a collision course with the people that know better, the fans and they are fast running out of patience with this tv series called NRL. And they voiced there opinion to the disgust of those not vested enough to understand. And to be honest its hard to act classy when your only imaging is VB and bucket loads of bird meat
The only winners to last nights debacle was channel 9 as the script ensured they would maximise there R.O.I.
Unfortunately the game took a massive hit, a self inflicted black eye for corporate greed and the league are either powerless to stop them from tarnishing the future of the game , or complicint in this denegration of a sport. We all have our suspicions
Players are often crucified for there actions on and off the field as they are role models. Its about time the officials at League HQ set an example on where the sport sits in the Australian Landscape. The league constantly bring the game into disrepute
This years GF , the circuis, the agendas and the general lack of disenterest generated before the game, the result and the fallout from the aftermarth is nothing short of tyranny for any fan , but a marketing bonanza for those whose purpose is devoid of the games greater interests.
Its about the only time ive felt sorry for slater as he was merely a pawn to sell more VB and chicken of questionable integrity , but his legacy will be as a great fullback but also a political pawn for the greater good of a tv network
Its politics in Australia so what should we expect. Anything but hope i suspect
