The Elephant in the room

I personally believe the elephant in the room is why our captain is happy to walk away from the club after so many years at the club. Since the price jersey saga the club has continued to make poor decision after poor decision (sacking Dessie, Sacking Foran, Shuster big money, Siebold, Issac Moses, Offers via nrl 360, leaking offers to media before they are made, centres as wingers, releasing Fainu’s, ditching grass roots to poach from western Sydney to name a few) our club isn’t focused on being a premier rugby league team it’s focused on turning a profit. I personally believe a snake rots from the head and until we deal with the issues in our board room we will continue to see issues on field. We need to bring in people who know how to win, not wooden spoons. We’re not a top 4 club, if we were we would be finishing in the top 4.

At the current stage it’s obvious we don’t know what we’re doing. Regardless of result I’ll be cheering for our team but until I see changes I’m not hopeful of us making any on field improvements.
When you have a privately owned franchise it’s impossible to address “ the boardroom “.

Despite all the dramas of “ the Football Club v the Penns “ ( in years go by ) we were more successful then , than we are today. As soon as the Penn’s gained full control any decisions became whatever they wanted without any discussion or repercussions.

Many would say this was the beginning of the end.

And currently , with home games selling out , memberships climbing they’d be starting to turn a decent profit and absolutely nothing will change in the near future.

Honestly another thread blaming DCE for every bad thing that's happened to mankind over the past 100 years.....

Surely if you take off the 'I hate DCE' glasses for just one minute you might be able to see reason.

Our only Line bending forward goes down in in round 3 and is out for the season. we haven't recruited any decent forwards for years. hell i would have Taken one of the MAY brothers even.

Tom misses round 3 and then does his knee round 4.

Saab comes into 2025 after complications to surgery in the off season. also misses games in 2025.

Tommy Talau one of our best backs last year misses the start to the season.

the messiah and best no.9 in the comp ( well looking at his thread you could be forgiven for thinking this) has been missing all year. this has meant Jazz T at starting hooker where he hasn't played for years. No look in for GCKT?

But the biggest Issue is Seibold. 100% lock it in.... no decent signings over the off season. No real leadership and no bloody idea.

we should and could have locked up LODGE to a decent deal last year but played silly buggers. sure we got him on a train and trail but again it leaves a bad taste in the players mouth no doubt. players need to be wanted. Offer Lodge 300k per year and say look you will be starting next year so go get em. he trains hard in the off season and is ready to go round 1.... we could have tied up DCE or at least tried to last year and avoided the circus.

So yes DCE announcing his departure was a kick in the guts for the club but it’s far from the main reason we are going so poorly.
I could respond by saying “ honestly yet another sack the coach response “.

Let’s just agree that you are in the pro DCE anti Seibold brigade.

And I’m in the anti DCE and the “ jury is still out “ on Seibold Brigade.

Both are just opinions, neither are definitive.

Peoples passion and hate has made them blind to this fact.

There is a reason the captain and career player does not want to be here.
Said that people are basically against him.

There is an issue and if you think Daly is leaving for the money not another issue, I'd bet you are wrong.
It's a people problem.

The current Manly Warringah Sea Eagles Board of Directors includes
Julie Sibraa (President)
Garry Thoroughgood (Vice-President)
Warwick Bulmer
Wayne Honeywood
Max Krilich
Alan Thompson
Steven Warren.

Cliff Lyons is the Chairman of the Manly-Warringah Rugby League Football Club
Scotty Wilcox is the Company Secretary, according to the Manly-Warringah Rugby League Football Club.

Scott Penn is the Sea Eagles owner and chairman.

privately owned franchises can have a board of directors. While not mandated by law for all private companies, a board of directors can be a beneficial structure for governance and strategic decision-making, particularly as a franchise grows or faces complex issues.

I apologise I was just going off what I had read off public records. If you are correct and we are relying on a single decision maker from an owner residing overseas and not being immediately involved in the game then that makes it worse in my opinion. Like I say, I definitely could be wrong and without trying to sound like a smartass I’d love for you to direct me to some further links regarding the management of the club so I can make more informed comments moving forward. Thanks in advance

Yeah, but they are paper or token only. It's like making the gimp at school a milk monitor (when we used to get free milk). The decision are made by the Penn family. They own it, they decide .... the buck stops with them

Like I say. I wasn’t actually trying to be a smarta** just trying to educate myself on the structure of our club before making future comments. Thanks for the clarification

That’s the board of the old Football Club who owns a very small percentage of the Franchise ( someone will know but it’s like 2-3% ) the Penn Family own the rest.

Some good people on there , I know Julie very well ( an outstanding and dedicated board member ) BUT pretty limited in what they can do once they attend a Franchise meeting due to their very limited share of the company.

The Football club is quite important , they own the colours , brand , and have the ultimate decision on how many ( if any ) games are played away from Brookie.

BUT

In regards to the Football Department they virtually have zero decision making strength.

They would have had zero say in the appointment of the coach , and zero say in recruiting.

Mark, I agree with your statement and this is coming from a neutral standpoint but I do watch every Manly game and keep track of the club hence why I am active on here, the sooner DCE announces what he's doing the better off they will be to me its quite selfish

Not sure it’s an Elephant but we can blame injuries , short turnarounds, whatever you like for our recent form but let’s face it , this all started after the “ big announcement “.

Yes the first game after , we won, but it was the Eels and you could see on the day the Dollar Chaser was going to put in big time.

Since then he , and we , have been dismal and in a downward spiral.

A captain isn’t only about talking to the press or the referee, their biggest role is motivating the team , especially when they are down & out , 12-0 down after 15 minutes.

Imagine how the players must feel knowing their captain doesn’t want to be there and they can see him “ dogging it “.

Now yes this maybe because of a back injury , but it’s more likely he’s just given up.

There are three courses this can take

1) we just accept it for what it is and know this year is shot already.
2) we appoint new , joint captains ( as one is hardly on the field these days anyway) and if the Dollar Chaser spits the dummy we really aren’t any worse off.
3) we send the Dollar Chaser to NSW cup , which means he’ll spit the dummy and demand an immediate release. So be it , if some club is prepared to stump up $600k ( or whatever it is ) all good , and we use those funds to forward pay some players so that if frees up that amount in 26. If no other club has the funds , that’s how he’ll complete his long history with the club , playing Reggie’s.
drop him and sack the coach and get rid of all the dud in this club

won’t happen but it’s what needs to happen

Tough decisions aren't really the Manly Way, with our history we'll have to fall further down the shxtter before something is done.......

Is there an anti dce anti spoon anti Penn brigade because I would like to join. it took all three to contribute the issues that have we are currently faced with.

i say Garrick should be captain. he plays 100% every game. my favourite player 👍
Seriously, he runs out of the line, never sprints back into the defensive line when he has missed a tackle: he is not a centre - more a winger m, and he isn’t the best of Goal Kickers - he missed an important one last Thursday s Dragons, sometimes kicks out in the Full on Kickoffs, he might be your favourite but need to pick up his effort - the whole team does - show some mongrel & passion and learn to defend our line

Thanks mate, appreciate it 🙏🏽 interesting to see the way we have structured the club. Highlights the importance of appointing the right people, also illustrates how some of the previous decisions had gone forward.
The most successful years ( in the last 20) were when there were two major shareholders , and the Footy Club held enough shares to determine what happened.

When Penn bought the other shareholder out it effectively nullified the Footy club completely , in my opinion they were sad days but many on here were very pro Penn and pro what happened.

It’s interesting that 15 years later most will have joined the “ Sack Penn” brigade.

I’m not anti the Penn’s , they carried the club for a few years and it’s probably only now that they are getting a return in their investment.

However , I’d love a rich benefactor willing to throw the kitchen sink at the club , rather than an entity look for a ROI only.

Well if it makes you feel any better you are still yet to get a wooden spoon since the clubs inception in 1947, so you haven't fallen that far ! Haha
