The Clean Out 2025 Edition

Yeah, get moving recruitment team (whoever you are? Peter Gentle?)
And what's all this 'development club' guff I always hear about?
Don't all the clubs have junior leagues and young players coming through their area? Or does it just refer to the largest catchment areas in Sydney, such as Panthers, Dogs, Eels and prob Tigers?
Whatever... get out there and scout a few likely lads quick smart!
I suspect we have closed down whatever recruitment office we had, and now just rely on coffee catchups with Isaac Moses.

This is the question I keep asking myself: “Is the ‘spoon’ so bad if it is part of a short, sharp turnaround that will deliver results in 3 years time?”

Everyone hates losing, but maybe if we are to properly compete again, we have to go through the pain. Where I land is that, if there was a clear plan to take us back to the promised land, I’d endure a barren year or two.

My concern is that with two new teams coming in over the next few years and the competition for talent only increasing, anything but a big shift in strategy / culture will result in another decade of mediocrity.

Agree with the theory although I don’t think we need a spoon to get there. We’ve never got one and we should take pride in never ever getting one.

A spoon wouldn’t be the worst thing if it was part of a clear plan to future success. I’m normally optimistic, but I’m not seeing a path to premiership glory without enduring some pain. I’d rather take the pain now. And you never know, we might avoid the spoon but perhaps we have to risk it.

The fact we have never come last is cool. But I’m more concerned about winning another premiership than ‘winning’ a first ever spoon.

I don’t agree coming last can ever be part of a clear path to success. Sounds like something our coach would say, or his cheerleaders. Can you imagine Arko or Fulton ever saying that?

Sometimes you have to be prepared to break something to fix it, and take your medicine along the way. Arko or Bozo (1980s/90s version) would not be afraid to make hard decisions that are in the long term best interest of the Club. Why? Because that’s what leaders do.

A spoon is absolutely the worst thing, finish 2nd last and feel the pain, no problem as we definitely need a broom and a fresh start…….but stop this talk of a spoon……

The problem with that theory is that we actually don't have the people to break it up and fix it. We just don't. The same ass some clowns that fcuked it up in the first place trying to fix again ain't going to be able to do it. They don't have the money or the footy smarts and they've shown they won't hire them. So basically we're fxcked ......

Honestly, I can’t say you are wrong. It seems another decade of mediocrity beckons.

I don’t want a spoon - no one does! But I’d be prepared to risk getting one to get ourselves in shape to properly compete in a few years’ time.

Yes, they made hard decisions, but they never waved the white flag and said we can’t compete this year. Manly has always aimed to win, that is priority number one. That is the Manly Way, not this other crap on social media. Plenty of clubs have rebuilt without compromising on current results.

Have no fears mate, I think we’ll be very close this year, so the risk is already real. Problem is I just have no confidence in the club and those involved to get things right, least of all make the hard decisions to start the rebuilding process.

Hell of a lot of doom and gloom here since Manly lost 3 in a row. In case no-one has noticed a lot of clubs have lost a lot of games, it can happen easily in this tough comp.
Never heard so many people say Manly may be about to get its first wooden spoon!
But don't mind me, carry on with your melancholy autopsy.

(I reckon we'll win tomorrow with a gutsy performance!)
