The Clean Out 2025 Edition

Remember the last great clean out we had ? It was in 2016/17 during the Barrett / Bozo years ?? That went well, almost won our first spoon

There is no point sacking players without decent replacements. Anyway we've got 16 or 17 of current squad already contracted for next year so they aren't going anywhere unless we are paying part freight - which then lessens our buying power, so what is the point.
Yeah, I don't see a clean out as the answer. Especially when people suggest we get rid of the fringe players...every squad of 30 has those types and they're fringe for a reason. The issue seems to be a captain that's fractured morale, a gun fullback that's always injured, our best prop is also out injured, and a game style that involves going sideways. There's enough talent in the roster to be going better than we are. Personally, I don't like our approach to the game in 25' and that's on our coach. I also think DCE's announcement has been a factor.

If we could get some quicker middle options around Paseka and Bullemor going forward, and land Fogerty for his kicking game, I think we will be OK.

Now we've confirmed that this year is well and truly fuked realistically what sort of team can we build for next year. Off contract players we need desperately
Payne Haas
Zac Hosking
Josh Curran
Herbie Farnworth
Kurt Capewell
Liam Henry
Blayke Brailey.
Clearly we can't sign all of them and most will probably re-sign with their current clubs anyway but if we don't start clearing out this used car lot and re-stocking with new models then we'll end up like those closed 2nd hand car dealers yards.
To be fair what quality players would see our club as a genuine option? We can’t offer a plan to success, we can’t offer premier coaching, our superstars can’t even guarantee finishing the game. Our only hope is to develop from within with players who love the club but our owners seem hell bent on scrapping our grass roots

Clean out priorities

1. Club owner who doesn’t get rugby league or even live in Australia (is Delmege still on the beaches)
2. Our {addict} coach (Was 2V really that bad in the scheme of things?)
3. The CEO who has a better relationship with the Journos than the team (stop leaking ****)
3. A captain who literally doesn’t want to be there and has made that known, not to mention is current in fights with our CEO
4. Our whole forward pack (apart from the Bull and Schmole)
5. Garrick back to the wing, if he won’t play there then f**k off, no one is bigger than the club
6. Anyone in the backline that refuses to put in when we are on the back foot or without Daddy Turbo

We have attempted to patch the leaking ship since 2011. Now that the #6 who demands halfback money is leaving it’s an opportunity to truely build towards something great. Problem is I don’t think our decision makers know what it takes to be successful, time to put your ego aside and fill the walls with like minded people who want to see us be successful. We haven’t fired a shot since 2013.

1) Delmege lives at the Gold Coast these days
2) For me Jury still out on the coach , although picking a winger on the bench last night was stupid.
3) agreed
4) agreed
5) semi agree but think he’s getting better at 4
6) don’t think that’s an issue , the forwards are the biggest cause of our issues

To me the three biggest issues are

A) Pop gun forward pack , bar a couple , we’ll never win games consistently with this crew.
B) Too much of our funds invested in a fullback who’s clearly not far off medical retirement , his brother ( god love him for his effort & enthusiasm BUT) who is now performing as a $350k forward who is on almost 3 times that , and a half back who’s on a million and doesn’t even want to be there.

We can argue about the Penn’s not stumping on the money ( they do but we are far from a rich chub ) & we can argue about the coach ( again the Jury is out , he’s not at fault with how they perform on the paddock , and personally I think too much is attributed to the coach but many will disagree and that’s fine , it’s just my opinion ).

And many will argue the CEO is average , I disagree completely think he’s doing the best of any of the ones we’ve had for years.

Many say “ blow it up and start again “ to me that’s way too drastic.

We are going to have to work through this , the first thing is we have to improve the forwards , that’s priority number 1.

How tf are you willing to get rid of Koula? If we were talented enough to execute a single set play he would be one of the best in ball players in the game. He is our better centre of Garrick
Purely from a cap space perspective. He's an absolute gun, but I think Garrick is the more complete player, particularly on the wing in my lineup. 400-500k becomes available for a forward.

A club needs to mean/stand for something. Otherwise what’s the point. Until we get some Manly DNA back into the joint, we are not going to succeed. Manly has only been successful with Manly men in charge. Arko, Fulton, Hasler. That’s the lineage. We need to get more of that 2007-2014 era group more involved, including someone to replace the cliche without a clue.

100% agree, still think there’s an opportunity for someone like Toovey to lead the charge. The DCE saga has shown that loyalty can’t be bought. We need more manly people to lead us out of this hole we have found ourselves in.

I respect the sentiment but can’t agree. I think with the right decision making we can find a way to keep both. One of the ways we can do that is to stop leaking our intent to the media before it’s even been done. All is does is start a bidding war against ourselves. $500k in the new salary cap for a A grade centre with speed, strength and conditioning on his side is a steal imo.

The brothers that's where a good chuck of the salary cap is.
DCE going anyway so more salary cap
And the others would be Wardell, Aloiai, Sipley, and Croker

We've gone 5 seasons now into #6 without seriously looking for an elite #9 since stabby. One of the most important positions. Croker gone for another month but he's never been that answer anyway. Seriously is it any wonder we aren't a contender.

The coach doesn't seem to want a 9. Simpkin is no star but he is steve walters or ben elias compared to Jazz yet the coach keeps on picking jazz.

Jazz must be shocked surely he didn't come here to play as a 9.

I thought he looked pretty good last night when he played there.
He did okay for that position.

It’s clear Gordie three names isn’t in the picture so he should be shipped off at years end.

Croker won’t play again.

So we need a proper 9, not sure who is on the market for 2026

No point sacking a single player unless Isaac Moses has a replacement for us.

Every young or promising player in the NRL would be avoiding Manly at any cost. We only appeal to has beens.

Until the club get serious and chases a tried and proven coach like Bennett, Bellamy, Cleary or Robinson we are doomed.

Also chasing players like Fogarty is ridiculous. Its just not the path to success buying fill in players in key positions.
