The back 3.

Kudos to them. We are getting on the front foot straight away. No offence to Snake but in the last couple of years his kick returns weren't dynamic. Tommy is making yards, then Uate and Taufau are shooting up making 10 yards....it's a massive difference. And Walker and Kelly are doing their share as well. This is also showing the commitment from the boys, the willingness to work for each other.

A couple of times last night these guys jumped in to take hitups to take pressure off tired forwards. In return the forwards repaid them with bruising defence on our goal line...great stuff.

Its become a real feature of our play that our back 3 all take regular charges up the guts - and actually make good ground when they do.
I think we've become one of those modern teams where each player has been handed a quite specific role, and they seem to be responding.

The new set up seems to be Turbo AKu Jorge. Followed by a couple of props. Second rowers not doing any regular hit ups and just working as edge runners. This allows them to play 80minutes.

Really surprised Hastings didn't get on the field last night. It might be a sign he will make way for Lussick next week. But it still seems as if you're shooting yourself in the foot playing with only 16 men. Especially how the roosters want to make the loss of Napa the reason they couldn't get the points

Uate and Tafua especially but Walker and Kelly are usually next hit up.

What is most impressive is the chooks new it was coming, had 3 men aim up every time yet it was still very effective. I did think in the first half when we only made 5 or 6 metres a few times that maybe we would need a change up but once the defence tired around the 30 minute mark it was back to normal transmission of 10+ metres.

The Warriors used this play for years with the beast but we have 2 beasts and boy is it working well.

and another thing - Jorge earning a penalty is just beautiful to watch. Runs it hard forces the penalty then just quietly jogs back to his wing, job done. 3 times over the last 2 weeks.

I also think it helps our back rowers have so much more left in the tank to put up in defence. We've already scored the most points this season (so far in the round) and if you take out that one bad phase against the Rabbitohs then our points conceded would be second lowest to the Storm.

I don't have a problem not using all interchanges. I think Des used to do it to build fitness and endurance into the forwards early in the season.

I think Matai's charges are missed though...they were the best tough carries in the competition. The newbies are doing a really good job and Uate really put egg on my face last night because that was a super performance.

The thing I am liking about our go forward at the moment is the composure...if the opposition a hemming us in, we don't get flustered and throw rash offloads or try and spread it wide, we just cop the tackle with the mindset that the next ruck will be better.

Yes, miss Matai's runs but Jorge seems to be stepping up instead. Tommy's returns are so much better than Brett's. I used to worry Brett would get hurt running it back.

Its as closeto total football as the modern game gets.
Kellys pass to walker another example.
