The Actual 18th Team: Perth Bears

Well in their statement they asked people not to sign up if they were looking for an nrl team. So guessing like most of us they don’t like the north sydney bears either
I thought you were going to say "like us they have hairs on their back"......I resemble that comment!

So the Bears Perth (a gay men’s club) have made an announcement that the are not part of the new nrl team - that is too funny

Wouldn't it be funny if the NRL belatedly found out that the men's club owned the rights to the name Perth Bears .... and they had to change the team name to the Perth Koala's ...

The appointment of Meninga as the initial Bears coach is a major mistake on the NRL's part. He hasn't coached club football for ages & when he did, was not successful in any significant way. With respect, coaching the Australian team is a very different scenario to establishing a new club. The NRL saying they wanted a high profile coach to launch the club would have merit on the eastern seaboard but not in the west where he would be generally unknown. Sounds like a 'reward' for Mals contribution over the years. They should have looked for a proven club performer as the only thing that will get the WAer's on board is a winning team. This one will end in tears....

It will start in tears, but ultimately, will be successful.

Meninga is a horrible choice for inaugural coach, agreed.

The most important thing for the franchise is to knock any and all ideas from the Sydney media about bringing back more games to Sydney.
This need to be a fully WA orientated franchise, or it will fail miserably in the medium to long term.

He won’t be doing any x and o coaching. He’ll be a Bennett like motivator and a figure head only. I wonder if Michael Hagan will be one of his assistants??

Let’s hope so. It could be in trouble as soon as noted ‘leaguer’ (cough), Roger Cook, shuffles his way out of politics.

Would love to see them fold quickly.

Agree. And his successor will need to be that proven winner that Mal at club level, wasn't.

Look at the disparity in the playing rosters between the top six clubs compared to the rest, there aren't enough players of first grade quality nowadays, yet Ver Landys in all of his wisdom decided to add another two new teams to dilute the playing pool even further

I can't wait to see Mals 1st rado interview as coach - so Mal, tell us about why you're the man for the job. "I'm just a person out there ah, makin sure that I was um ... Ha, I'm buggered, I'm sorry .......

Don’t forget to add at least a half a dozen ‘obviouslys’ in that statement. I run out of fingers and toes counting them.(I could use a clicker calculator, but that might seem a bit anal retentive of me 😳).

Me and the Mrs do the same. It's embarrassing that he has had a job in the media for so long when he struggles to string two words together that make any sort of sense and any questions he asks are so banal and don't even require an answer. He even manages to put obviously obviously together. He's trading on his success as a player from about 35 years ago

Disagree, plenty of talent about.

Also some pretty handy rosters not currently top 6.

Panthers
Manly
Broncos
Roosters
Souths
