That was the game that will make this team.

Great goal line defence. Intelligent halves play. Missing some key players with others who stood up. Really good to see.

This crappy refereeing performance will galvanise and untite these eagles like nothing else could. Great. Really Great. Best thing that could have happened.
Well a win would've been better but I see what you're saying.
It was good to see players stepping up.
They'll be nice and cranky for next week but we've gotta keep a lid on it and not get over the top.
I hope we don't lose anymore with injury.
Smash those tigers next week and meet with that limp dick Archer during the week.
For what it's worth !!

That was another game where Carbonara can [ modified for inappropriate language] and say yeah, **** yeah ****ing Manly feels good!

Can't see a repeat when they next meet at Brookie. Can see the boys banking that one and demolishing Penrith in the last round, especially if the Panfers need to win to make the 8. It would be some poetic justice, and a nice tune up heading into the semis.

Should be a smashex. 80-2 Manly's way, with five more Manly tries disallowed.

Spagenry Carbonara will be one of the linesmen.

If the Panthers need the win to make the 8 they will get it. If they are already in the 8 we will pip them in a tight one, setting up a 'thrilling' GF rivalry.......oy vey

Interesting point of view @Top End Eagle , and you may be right.

One lesson they do have to learn is to " play the refs at their own game".

They were the better team last night by a country mile, and I thought after the first half penalty count they might've " sucked it up" and played a bit tighter in the second half.

They didn't and the ref found fault in almost every set , the Panfers way.

Time will tell , if they learn from it they'll be better for it, if they take the victim approach they will continue to lose penalty counts.

Referee " tip sheets" ( as I read in another thread ), FMD what's the world coming to!

Spot on. It could be the greatest loss this team has in more was then one this year. But make no mistake our boys lost that game.

It was finals footy and intensity come early. And emotionally, mentally our boys never settled, never calmed down, and never quite had there mind on playing footy yesterday.

If we can improve dealing with the moment. This team can do anything and everything this year.

The thing is there is no effective recourse regarding refereeing performances. Its all held in house. What should exist is an independent body assessing each game and identifying flaws in the refs games. They should be given a point system standard whereby if they fall below a certain level they are dropped. Make them accountable but not by the NRL. There are enough retired refs of quality out there for a committee to be formed. Players have their games dissected carefully by their coaching staff. Refs should have the same but not be groups as best you can, that have potentially vested or partial issues such as the NRL management

and here I was thinking that Round 1 against the worms, which pretty well had the same dynamics was the game that made this team. Whilst we were not missing players it was all new combos and diabolical refereeing that ensured we had only 30% possession.

Danger, danger Will Robinson, after the great round 1 defensive effort we were very flat in Round 2!

Yeah. I was pretty disappointed with how we backed up round 3 in 2012 as well.

No mate. The best thing that could have happened would have been a win, against the odds, in the last minute of play.

This would have also "galvanised and united" the team, but also taught them that they can overcome, and win against these odds, even when the refereeing is blatantly stacked against them.

As a loss, it was a "good" loss, but at the end of the day it was a loss we didnt deserve. As you say though, lots of fantastic positives to come out of that performance, across the team.

Make us or break us though (That is if the NRL continues to allow the refs officiating in our matches, to have the same degree of influence on our results, as we saw last night)? We will have to wait and see.
