For me ... two of the most interesting selections this week will happen in Blacktown ... not Brookvale.
Firstly ... who will be named half ... Arffur or Latu ? .. with 20 1st grade games Arffur is the obvious senior .. and Latu is still eligible for Flegg ... but if Latu is seen as the next thing , should he be given priority? ... and what about Humphries, is he officially out of the halfback equation ... is he now a hooker after just one game there?
secondly ... after starring and scoring three tries from hooker ... does Humphries get a shot at challenging Gordon Can Tang Go for dummy half in reggies ?

Looks like they're being pretty conservative with both Latu and Jamie Humphreys, moving them up and down as the situation demands.
And, interestingly enough, Jamie has been used at hooker as well as at halfback pretty much throughout his time in the juniors. Primarily a half, but he was playing hooker every now and then as well. Seems to be a thing for a lot of young halfbacks, giving them time at hooker either to "toughen them up" or because the positions do share some similarities.
And on the Jakey front, Seib's at the after game presser said Jake should be right for the Roosters game on Sat week. Something to look forward to.

I thought there would be zero chance of turbo and Dce backing up especially after the Murray, arrow, Cleary soft tissue injuries after origin one.
Tom’s soft tissue injury history will not be risked with two games in four days I would have thought and Dce is 34 so a big ask.
Just my opinion / thoughts as I haven’t read anything from the club or media on this.

It's only a game ...
I expect DCE to back up as he has (mostly) done so in the past. Currently, I think he is our most important player and without him, we have no chance of beating the Storm.
Ideal scenario: Blues have an easy win on Wednesday night and Turbo is as fresh as a daisy to play the Storm at the weekend.
Alternative ideal scenario - Blues playmakers completely ignore Tom for the whole game, as they did during Origin 1, and he is fresh as a daisy to play the Storm.
agree .. for now ... the kid has talent, but needs more time to develop ...

One can imagine the rising concern at the club around our play-making stocks at present.
DCE is 34, and (I think) will be 36 when his present contract is over - no doubt it will probably also be his last.
Who steers the good ship Manly on the field in the near-ish future? Who will do it the best?
Schuster? Currently brilliant on his day, but also inconsistent, and with question marks on his fitness.
Humphries - was a shining star in lower grades not long ago - now a hooker? What's doing? I guess you can't have too many good hookers..... (cue the Benny Hill theme.....).
Johns? Was brought back to the club with at least moderate hope. Not giving many of us hope presently.
Arthur? Are we just going to keep bringing the halfbacks / five-eighths who are not cutting it at the highest level to Manly in the hope that one of them will be the next big thing?
Latu Fainu? Seems to have a lot of upside, but still quite young. The club must be hoping he will morph into a world-beater before DCE retires.
The next 18 months or so will be interesting.
It is clearly Latu, he is 18 at the moment so he'll taste first grade next year and will be ready when DCE retires.

Wasn't he mostly a running 5/8 in juniors? Quite a big difference between a running 5/8 and an organising halfback role.
Yep but a running and ball playing 5/8....its not like he was a Jack Wighton. He has a great passing game.
Playing halfback in reggies now and looked great there on Sat.
Interesting to see when and how the coaching staff develop Arthur as a ball playing forward.
Humphries has good game control and deserves a chance.
Latu he has some big wraps on him and now 18, I would stick with him there.
The bench in first grade needs a look at, time for Gordon over Lawton for me.

Really no point in playing either of them.
Mark this game as a loss and have them and Jake back for Roosters game, then we have the bye in round 19, followed by Cowboys at Brookie in round 20.
Forget this week and get 6 points in the next 3 weeks will push us back into the 8.
Then we finish with only 2 of our last 7 games at home.

Win 3 of those and could finish on 29, might sneak into the 8 and be cannon fodder for the finals.

Wow...haven't looked at this, only 2 at home out of 7 games. As long as we've got our spine playing every game, we're looking good for 8th maybe 7th or 6th if we exceed expectations.
Sharks and Penrith are toughies, the rest are all winnable.
