It was a sunny Saturday afternoon and rugby league fans piled into Pittwater Rugby Park to see the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles play the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks in both teams’ first trial for the 2015 season.

The day of events kicked off at 3.30pm, with the under- 20s teams playing to secure their spot in this year’s National Youth Competition.

The team was indulged with new faces, and even though most only knew of Tom Trbojevic, especially after the two tries he went on to score, others stood out too.

Utility player Will Pearsall was also stupendous, and ended up playing in both the under-20 and first-grade trials.

The final score was 36-16 Manly’s way.

About 5.30pm the crowd built quickly until there was hardly a spare seat, and that was when the main game started.

Manly ran on with a team of “newbies”, with a few familiar names thrown in the mix too. The likes of Tony Satini, Dominic Reardon and Kurt Aldridge put Manly ahead by 12 in the early stages of the game.

Jake Trbojevic ran on to the field to have a taste of his first game of football in more than seven months, after two horrible leg injuries ruled him out for most of the 2014 season. But you could hardly tell that he hadn’t played since round 15 last season because his defence and attack were superb.

Pretty controversial article. Describing the day and the on-field play instead of speculating about off-field matters.
You know, this just might catch on!

Well done, Ella. Your passion for the game, the club and knowledge of the players is obvious. Wishing you the best of luck in your future and I look forward to more from your keyboard. Congrats.
