First Grader
The Storm really did their homework on our team and got result after result in the game.
In big games attention to detail is so important.
If you look at the first kick off, the ball is allowed to bounce and we nearly got trapped in goal. There is no doubt that they saw the Bulldogs score a try against us a couple of weeks ago when we did not deal with a kick off.
We did not win any of the match turning moments.
Their first try comes off the back of an error when we tried to expand the play spilt pass and they score. We allow Munster to do a one on one steal when we all know its his forte and they score back to back tries when our goal line defense is just not up to it.
We allow a goal line drop out to us roll into touch again cause know one deals with the ball. We allow a 40/20 against us on the last tackle as our winger is up and out of position.
The 6 tries conceded all come down our right edge defensively. They Storm attacked Harper with and without the ball all night and he got badly exposes as did DCE and Oka. Big learning curve for our right side last night.
I knew Melbourne would be strong, they are experienced and ruthless at exposing other teams weaknesses. I was so disappointed that we submitted to them and contributed so much to our own downfall with dumb errors, late tackle penalties and its fair to say we were not at the races last night at any stage.
Oh well, how do we bounce back? This is still an opportunity. We must learn from this defeat fast.
Hopefully next week the addition of Croker at 9 will give us some more stability. We need our halves to step up and game manage and show a measure of patience with and without the ball.
You have to earn the right to attack and we at no stage did that last night.
The drizzle were methodical. They do the basics so well, solid kick chase, completions. take advantage of errors and when required have players who can score spectacular tries.
All is not lost. This team has shown it can bounce back and that painful experience is needed to show the level that we need to reach.
