Steve Matai Medical Retirement

Stewart has had dodge knees for years.

Matai has had a problem with his neck for ages.

Shock horror. Their pre existing injuries.

The club is trying to put some of next year salary cap in this year.

Can't blame them for that. But there's 0 % chance of success. And agree. Can't blame the nrl.

Just like Watmough who had knee issues still at manly.

So you would expect the same result

This is what happened to Manly's application as soon as the NRL received it:

Hmmm is there a possibility of getting a large scale one of these that Greenberg could fall into......

Hang on....round fkn 25. What exactly is the point of this article?
As mentioned in the article, if the medical retirements had been granted it would have effectively given us a cap increase by being able to front load new contracts in 2017 by the amount of cap "retired", so the outcome is still very relevant.

My bad, I was under the impression that the 2017 season is nearly over, hence my question about the relevance of the outcome.

Unless of course they are planning to re-start 2017, and then we'd get to be filthy all over again.

2017 could have been a very good year for us with an extra $1.2 Million to spend on players. That could have been the quality centre and second rower we have been missing.

What I wouldn't give to have had Gutherson and Buhrer back this year.
Or a superstar in either position and we would have been much better.
To win this many games with the handicap we had is very underrated.

Maybe so, but the trouble is, Buhrer and Gutherson between them have had at least four knee reconstructions, so really, their footballing careers are on borrowed time.

I know, but if Stewart and Matai had retired earlier we could have kept both and taken our chances. Obviously the way that this year has gone for both of them injury wise we didn't miss them too much.

I would not have made any difference when Matai and Stewart retired as they were still in our salary cap for this year.
Luckily in a way, when they gave Stewart a contract extension it was for one year , rather than the two years that he wanted

I agree, however, how do they explain Chocs pre existing injury retirement at the cheats last season. It would be no problem whatsoever to swallow the rejection of Steve and Snake if the people running the game applied one rule for all. The game is saturated in contradiction and bias. And eventually it will kill the passion that fuels supporters of the code. TBH despite his obvious shortcomings, David Gallop is like a genie in a bottle compared to the corrupt maggots that run the game today. Who would have thought hey? Greenberg was, is and always will be a master of spin who possesses a silver tongue. He's not an administrator and never will be. He's a salesman, and his product is himself and corporate dollars, end of story.

Surely manly will offer him another year? Out if loyalty?
