Steve Folkes dies age 59

I agree with a lot of the comments above, including @bob dylan - can't think of a Dog player I've respected more. Not big but tough and fit, not known for dirty play (almost un-Dog-like in that regard), and seemed a straight shooter as a coach as well.
I recall being impressed a couple of years ago to learn he had taken an assistant role, for a man with such credentials in the game that showed character, I thought at the time.
... surprising news and sad news.

I enjoyed watching him play especially for NSW and Australia. I respect players who’s actions are louder than their words. He was a no nonsense hard as nails second rower who played well above his weight. I will remember him!

Really sad news and R I P Steve Folkes . Achieved much in R L and no doubt a very well respected player , coach and individual .

Muzza was a mate and a champion

Wonder if someone could represent our Silvertails and post a note from all of us regarding folksy

I know it’s feral there st times but one genuine post representing us all would be a fitting gesture

Maybe one if the staff members

I survived a heart attack last Friday. Discharged yesterday from hospital. Was one week away from competing in national touch tournament. Feeling lucky to be alive. I don't know, confused, seems like pot luck who survives a heart attack.
Glad to hear you survived .
What was the cause of your heart condition if I may ask ?

Dodgy widow killer heart runs in the family. Work stress. Cigs. Less than ideal diet. Can't do anything about the first factor, but totally under my control to address the other 3.

Fairly fit though for my age given those factors, but was never able to get super fit like my team mates. Touch football is very tough on the heart, but I always managed to find a way to never over do it. The beauty of unlimited subs.

We are all creatures of habits and we all have good and bad habits
The good thing is that you have identified the habits that are not good for your health and that is the first step and the easy part . The hard part is to find alternatives to those habits of concern and stick with them until they become your new healthy habits .
Look after your health/body and it will let you enjoy life to its fullest for years to come .
If you would like advice on any health and fitness feel free to message me .
Good luck feathered friend

Well said by an impressive bunch of human beings. Good on you guys!

Steve Folkes, a champion of rugby league through guts and determination.

You were very highly respected by your adversaries and their fans as well...and that's about as highly as someone can be regarded in the world you lived and loved.
I'm sure everyone you ever touched in your life is very proud of you.

RIP champion!
