Steve Folkes dies age 59

Heart attack whilst exercising.

Met Steve a few times and was a really knowledgeable and interesting person to speak to. The game is at a loss with his departure.

Wow, that’s a huge shock. Liked him as a player, and thought he was a genuinely good bloke. Always looked stripping fit after his footy career. Very sad.

I lived directly across the road from Steve in Yagoona West in the 80's and 90's he was fit as a fiddle...Played cricket at Steve Folkes oval just this weekend and got 85*... So sad to hear of his passing, way to young.

59, wow, yes way too young.

But it happens, I’m about as fit as George Rose ( and similar in shape) but I lost a good mate about 10 years ago , so about 52-53 then, a fitness fanatic, ran for Kms per week, played squash , tennis , golf , didn’t smoke and drank about 6 light beers a week.

Dropped dead sitting at his desk at work, a heart issue that he knew he had but thought with everything he was doing that he’d beat it.

RIP Steven Folkes. He was a tough player who was part of one of the best ever Canterbury sides, he played with great strength and was a big reason for their success and he also helped NSW to many big wins too. His untimely death reminds you to be grateful for what you have in this life. Sad day!
