Starling and Lawrence futures

I tend to think if we can shift Burgess we will keep Starling

Alternatively of we have a buyer for Starling and not
Burgess then he will go

Burgess is out anyway. If the way his leg bent in that tackle is anything to go by he has definitely done his ACL.

Star was strong off the bench yesterday and I can't help but wonder what BJ's speed would have done to that Warriors pack yesterday. And surely his hit ups are worth much more than Hasson's......

It's been reported Burgess thinks he's done his ACL. When I did mine it took the doctors (specialists) all of 30 seconds (testing both knees) to give me a definitive diagnosis. So I'd say he's goooorne.

Starling is no frills and understated, but has added starch to the forwards since his return. Rather than being on the outer, he'd be my third choice prop behind Turbo and Myles for next year. And, to win the power game, I'd prefer to treat Lawrence as a backrower, not front rower.

Keeping Starling is a MUST!

He has been great since he came back from injury following on from his good form of last year.

While it took him a few months initially to find his feet in first grade, he has been the type of no frills forward we need.

He was just starting to hit his straps at the end of last year and i think his best game was against the dogs in the semi where he didn't take a backward step against a highly fancied pack.

It was no co-incidence that we lost strength in the forwards when he was injured. Now he is back and we look so much stronger.

I have no confidence in Penn or Kelly to see his value but i would be keeping Starling for sure.

Starling is getting some match fitness back and hes starting to fire, I hope the club retains him for next year, Lawro has work to do and has missed a lot of footy. I hope he comes back stronger.

No one mentioned Starling as a topliner. He is a good solid forward growing into a Tolman type of player.

I wouldn't have Douglas ahead of him or McKendry for that matter.

More time in first grade and he will only get better.

Bozo, I am torn. I can see what you're saying and I think we need some top line forwards to challenge the better packs, but for the price, I think Starling can do a handy job off the bench.

If he is our premier prop, I agree we are in big trouble. I think you can do worse off the bench though, especially when you consider how he plugs a hole in defence and doesn't cost a bomb.

Either way I am not too concerned, but I think he is probably more a keeper than Lawrence (who I think is cactus).

I also agree with what you are saying Snake but if releasing Starling would free the cap for us to sign a top line dominating destructive forward then that is fine by me . Bring out the broom

How is Lawrence cactus? Major back op, even bigger rehab, give him a chance to work his way back to full fitness.

Lawrence will be more useful next year with the reduced interchange. You need to have more mobility in your forward pack and he fits that bill. Our pack next year is looking OK in terms of guys with reasonable size and mobility - J Turbo, Myles, Lussick and BJ. Leary and Brown will give us a couple of nuggety types for the middle 3rd as well.

So we've bought Miles (old), Brown (midget) and Darcy (loose cannon) and a couple of young hooker/half prospects. And dumped a heap of forwards. Where do those three purchased players fit in your list of top line impact forwards?

I regard Miles and Starling as similar value. They're both old-fashioned pigs - both tighten the ruck area, both play a no frills game, without too much flash. Neither takes a backward step. The sort of players that will reduce the impact of opposition "top line forwards". And will securely get you the hard yards.

Myles represented Australia at the same age as Starling is now 25 and is a current State of Origin player and you are regarding him as similar value as Starling . You certainly are entitled to your opinion Rex

The last decent game he played was in 2013, he has just had major back surgery and he is over 30 years old. He got folded like my laundry in rd.1 against the Eels pack and I find it hard to erase the embarrassment from my mind.

I hope he proves me wrong, but I think of him as a late bloomer who had one bumper year playing in a star studded lineup, as opposed to our forward leader who will assist us in our march towards premiership glory.
