Stability 2018

Reserve Grader
For the first time in three years, we have a stable roster heading into next season.

Only Lawrence will be missing from next year's team (based on yesterday's side). Am assuming Parker re-signs.

I see us signing a depth prop, speedy winger (preferably who kicks goals) and depth second rower. But none will the change team's make-up much in 2018.

A stable roster is key to us winning comp in 2018 as players build on combinations, and better understand our systems. We haven't had it for years, and now we do.

You are asking for "a speedy winger who kicks goals...".
We have such a player in our Under 20s: Jade Anderson.
Now, I'm not suggesting he is worthy of NRL standard but he does possess both attributes.
Surprisingly, he doesn't have a profile on the MWSE website - nor does Tent, for that matter.
I gather he must have been a mid-season transfer and the admin staff haven't bothered to profile either player.
Can anyone shed light on Jade Anderson? He was very impressive in the second half of the Holden Cup on Sunday.

We are still short on a prop, we have no props good enough to start alongside marty once bj leaves. Our depth is also a big issue in every position. Fix those 2 things up we win a premiership.

I think you'll find Fulton will do something with that 1.2 million dollar short fall that might just effect the make up of our starting side next year.

There is a trend on this forum...

We win = we have a great 17 and no changes need to be made.

We lose = sack play a,b, c and d

The truth is somewhere in the middle. We could do with a marquee backrower and a prop. I think another outside back would probably help but it's the pack that needs something extra...Taufua will be back next year and Uate is doing some good things. Parker looks the goods so any back that we sign will probably only need to be depth.

Put it this way, if we had Klemmer starting in the front row next year with Ryan Matterson down an edge, I think we would be very hard to beat. We are two marquee players short of a premiership winning roster. I doubt either player will be released from their current contracts but still, I can dream!

We will have plenty depth props in 2018. I agree we still need to sign a starter as none we currently have are suitable to start at the moment. We have money to spend and I say we are in the market for a big name, i bet it will come after the NRL release the figure of the 2018 salary cap. Teams will be desperate to ease cap pressure and we will pick up a gun at a discounted rate contract. I hope no signings are made until the figures are finalised and let the other clubs knock each other out while we sit back and watch the mess they are making.
IN BOZO WE TRUST

I think young Sipley will be raring to go next year and think he will be integral in our 17. Agreed in a back rower, I'm still keen to persevere with jelly or Parker in the centres another off season will do them wonders..

Chambers, Munster, Bromwich and Harris are all guns too.

They have an incredible team and look like they will win at a canter this year.

And an extra mill in cap too 🙂
That's my favourite signing for next year.

the storm only have 3 big guns and they contend every year
Chambers, Munster, Bromwich and Harris are all guns too.
Asofa-Solomona will be a Kiwi international by year's end, Kenny Bromwich is already, Jordan McLean and Glasby were in SOO squads this year. Also a couple of handy blokes on the wings now I think of it...

I dunno why souths haven't signed him but what do people think of John Sutton? Can play 2nd row and back up five eighth? Do people perceive him as lazy, complacent or ineffective? I ask sincerely because I don't think I've seen more than a couple of bunnies games this year so I haven't seen whose making an effort besides Angus Chrichton and maybe Cody Walker. Anyone seen them play much in 2017?

This is not a suggestion, it's a question.. calm down with the disagree button @SoaringEagle @The Who How do you 'disagree' with a question anyway? was it that offensive? I've seen worse escape the mark

He is pretty lazy and ineffective. When he occasionally runs hard and thinks about the offload second he can be effective. The big trouble is he is injury prone and past his (limited and overrated) prime. If he wanted a bench spot and was fighting for a career on a one year deal it could be good however.

Cheers Tomay : )
Sounds a bit like a feliti mateo 2.0
If thats the case I can understand why he's still un signed for next year. As you said, he may go to another club and like Aku, he could rediscover some form but it would probably be best for said club to give him a 1yr contract for motivation etc. Maybe knights or tigers..

@The Who Sorry mate I'm not sure what you disagree with? I didn't make any claims or statements.. ?

I did ask a few questions though.. :peace:

Ado Carr, Vunivalu, Glasby, Solomona and that backrower that scores tries running off Cronk are no slouches either. The praise about Melbourne winning with only three big name players is a myth that gets pumped up in the media.

I must admit I love watching Vunivalu. He is an exceptional athlete. Melbourne certainly have the best recruitment in the comp. They recruited him at age 18 from Auckland rugby. He now just 21 years old, and can probably qualify to play for Queensland in the SOO.
Even without Cronk next season they will be hard to beat.

Despite QLD's creative best efforts, he's ineligible for Origin..

He did play his first game of RL in the Queensland Cup for Storms' feeder team.
If not eligible for SOO, can he play for Australia or is he restricted to playing just for Fiji?

The point for me though, is that Melbourne did not buy guns, they developed them around the established 3 guns TR alluded to.

So if you have the right core of players, it is not necessary to splash crazy money, but to get guys in that fit the culture and system.
