Spud in hospital

Buzz is reporting former Penrith hard man Mark Carroll is in hospital.
Don't let facts get in the way BUZZ, he played 88 games for Manly, 68 for Souths and 13 for Penrith.
Doesn't mention it in the story but on the Tele front page, it mentions Penrith.

It takes a lot to knock down legendary rugby league enforcer Mark Carroll and put him into hospital.

Yet a garden tick, the size of a poppy seed, has floored the former Origin and Kangaroos forward with severe poisoning that could have killed him.

Speaking from his bed in North Shore Private, Spudd told The Sunday Telegraph “it scared the **** out of me” when his doctor revealed the illness was potentially fatal.

“I haven’t had a day off in 14 years but couldn’t get out of bed to go to work on Monday,” he said.

“I thought I had a little pimple on the side of my stomach and thought nothing of it. Then, on Sunday night, I was in bed and felt like I was dying.

“Anyway, we found the tick. Seriously, in all my life, I’ve never been this crook. It f … ing dropped me. The doctor said people can die from it.”

Renowned as one of rugby league’s all-time toughest players, Carroll will remain in hospital over the weekend but hopes to return to work at his inner-city gym later in the week.

“They put a drip line into my bicep and all the way to near my heart to pump the antibiotics through my body quicker,” he said.

He says locals have reported a tick epidemic near bushland where he lives in Bayview.

“Apparently three cats have died around our area recently,” he said, “It’s unbelievable what something so small can do to you.

“My advice to your readers is this: Don’t try to take ticks out like I did, they’re little pricks. It makes them inject the poison.

“Kill the bastard first. Freeze it. Spray hairspray. Something to kill it. And then take it out with tweezers.”

“My groin and ankle, where I had surgery this year, were really swollen. My skin went all red. It was shocking.

“Anyway, it’s getting better and I’ll be back on my feet soon.”

Gotta be real careful for a long time with ticks.
That bloody lymes disease is a by product of a tick bite and is a mongrel.
Shame it didn't bite Buzz but he'd be more toxic than the tick.
Anyway get well soon Spudd...

Spud was at his best with the Sea eagles
