For those who are interested, here are some stats on our 2018 campaign. Just picked ones of most interest, feel free to add more if you like.

I have sourced these from a few sites (foxsports, NRL, etc..) please feel free to let me know if some are inconsistent.

9th tries scored, 81 tries
1st tries conceded 103 (there is your evidence of poor defence)
10th Run Metres conceded 33,019 (means we leak tries inside our 20).
4th Line Breaks, 114 (thanks Tom)

Equal 8th Completion Rate 76% (10th according to fox stats)
8th Goals - 87 from 110 attempts (9th in attempts) 79% accuracy (equal 6th with 5 other clubs)

Equal 6th 2 field goals from 7 attempts (equal highest with titans)
15th for kicks 387 for 8550 kick metres (last). Telling stat that one.
Equal 6th for Forced Drop outs 34

13th for errors 234 (that is good, 1st were cowboys with 283)
Equal 4th for penalties awarded 204. (Storm highest 223, SURPRISE)
4th for Penalties conceded 210 (No Surprises, the Manly tax at play)

Equal 6th for Forced Drop outs 34 - I read this as being us forcing the opposing side to drop out - if so, that surprises me in the positive.

Yeap, a good reflection of a poor season. Turbo, Kapow and Jake being some highlights.

Yeah that is a good thought. The players whose stats varied did play origin, and/or the Anzac test.

Fun fact, we finished 1 win and 54 points f/a in front of Parramatta.

Other than just basic defensive effort and ability, I've always thought the biggest issue to having good defence was to have good defensive centres who read the game and then secondly getting your markers set and square and working effectively.

I have some time for Brian Kelly so this isn't a knock on him I hope we keep him he at least has promise - but our defensive decision out wide between our centres/wingers as a whole were absolutely pathetic this year. They played like strangers in defence.

Our centres/wingers defence have to be the first problem solved next year. We were spoiled all those years with Lyon and Matai. Plugging this gaping hole …. Its an even bigger problem to me than who coaches the rabble.
