So, how much cap space do we have left this year?

We thought there was $800k left while we were chasing Mitchell Pearce. But that didn't work out, and it has been reported we would have been over if Pearce landed here, and therefore attract a points deduction. We then bought Thompson for $500k? So, I'm thinking we are pretty much fully done when you take $330k penalty into account. But then Greenburg says we are currently well under the cap for this year?

I can't work it out, anyone have a better understanding of our position?

I believe Thompson is not included in the amount remaining. He was signed well before the NRL limited our spending.

Hence why they registered his contract.

I wonder why they stretched the penalty of $660k over 2 years? It's as if they know we only have $330k left? (Which would seem a lenient play from Toddy)
Maybe we reached a deal with him, and in return, we won't release the damaging email, if we have one... Are we about to release Lussick to free up money to extend Api's contract?

From my reading of the announcement and understanding of our cap balance.
  1. $660k off the Cap and spread over two years. So $330k off this years and next years cap.
  2. I thought we had about $800k left in the Cap this year before all this started, so that should leave about $470k left after the cap fine.
  3. If Lussick is released as mooted this morning, then that should give us somewhere close to original $800k left in this years cap.
  4. Assume upgrades to Api and Siro would be about $300k so would come off this number.
Best case we have say $500k left assuming Lussick goes and his new club pays for rest of this year contract. Worst case, we have bugger all left if Lussick is not released and / or we had to fund Thomson out of the original $800k. Clear as mud. Club will be all over this today so hopefully will clarify quickly.

Lol, very optimistic indeed !

Was thinking the same thing.

If we have about 500k left we can use it to forward end deals to ease the cap next season.

Or upgrade players

With our squad essentially locked in for 2018 we prob won't buy anyone at this stage.

I guess it depends on the TPAs organised..... sorry, I'll show myself out

We only have 28 of 30 player squad needed before july1, 27 if Darcy leaves beforehand.

It will take about $200k of the $470K odd we will have left just to fill those 2 spots.

At this stage it is important that the fans are given some clarity on where things actually stand. Yes, I get the commercial in confidence stuff, however the reality is MWSE will continue to lose credibility amongst its fans base (ie Revenue) until transparency and accountability is provided on this and other issues to its membership. And as as for you Peter Peters, you can stick your sausage rolls up your arse, if you try and spin this in anyway differently.

500k spare in the cap after 330k reduction for 18 and can still get players .We also have 330k deducted in 19 but made the semis in 17 with 1 mill cap space unused due to Stewart and skivs retirement. I think.......

Nope we need to sell a player imo.

We were chasing Thompson @ 500K before offering Pearce 800K before going back and signing Thompson for 500k.

Assuming we had 800K we only have 300k now and a 330K fine to accommodate.

We have no money, and that is why we are shopping Darcy around. And why Rothtool is telling everyone Darcy will ease salary cap pressures now.

We are still 2-3 short on our roster too.

Forgot about that, Thommo's contract hasn't been registered yet, so yeah, we are minus $30k after his $500k and the $330k cap reduction...and still 2 players short of the 30 squad.
How can Joel’s contract not be registered and he is still able to play- I don’t think that this is in the rules so I’m sure the contact is ok
