After BS officiating Every weekend pretty much destroying the game- what’s the solution?

1) 1 or 2 refs ?
My vote is 1 ref to get consistency (good or bad) both ways.

2) Bunker stays or go’s ?
I vote back to live decisions, bunker still get plenty wrong and it stops the game at critical times for long periods.

3) IF the Bunker stays, can they introduce the ability to call a forward pass.
I vote yes, as it’s dumb to have a replay system that was designed to call call out foul play, with the forward pass an exception to the rule.

The future of the game will be AI. Video is old technology it takes too long to assess. There will be no touch judges no refs. More refs haven’t improved the game. Human error will be eliminated. It will be referreed by programmed drones. If you think this is a little out there just remember that the players have chips in there jerseys that measure meters gained, heart rate etc it’s just an extension.

RL is a simple game, that was made into something different by the likes of Bill Harrigan, and his "game management" and " interpretation".
Go back to basics and the game will be better for it.
I challenge anyone to go down to your local A grade, watch a few games, and tell me that the product isn't a better overall experience ad a RL fan.

Get rid of those stupid, biased "tip sheets" where the refs are told who to penalise before they take the field!

One ref and still the video review for a try. Whether it's still the bunker or not i don't care but we do need a review after a try...but only for decisions that are 50/50...not sending it up there for a try that's 99% a try but they need to give KFC their advertising quota.

And i agree with an earlier post that the video ref can rule on a forward pass. If they can for offside, what's the difference? Rule an imaginary line across the field when reviewing if they think they'll have trouble. Some forward passes are blatant and it's ridiculous they can't call it back when we see the replay.

I just want to know how does our coaching staff improve our game

Apply the current rules per the actual rule book:
1) Order a scrum be set when the Manly opponents throw a forward pass.
2) Order a scrum be set when a Manly player is accidentally offside.

Video technology is part of the sporting landscape so that’s not going anywhere.

However i think it should be a sideline review by the ref like in the NFL. Outside influences would be taken out to an extent. This would keep consistency with the game officiating and flow etc

Love your work buddy, all great points!!

Get rid of those stupid, biased "tip sheets" where the refs are told who to penalise before they take the field.

This is the biggest issue with the refs. Pre-programmed to assume certain outcomes based on tips sheets which then perpetuates the instances that the tip sheet calls out. So and so has given away 11 penalties for stripping the ball - oh a ball is loose and so and so is in the tackle (1 + 1 = umm 3) yes - penalty strip! Tip counter for stripping penalties goes up to 12.

Agree. They got that Telstra tracker. Why can't they stick it in the ball, so if the ball is thrown forward it turns purple (the colour of failure) or something!....theres got to be a better way to adjudicate forward passes.

What brand of coffee do you drink?! I'm still struggling with the fact I have to get out of bed.

Spot on. I reckon Jake T is getting hammered this year off the back of the tip sheet. Last year it was Maloney. I am not saying that they shouldn’t be penalised, but they are often held to a higher standard than other players.

My post from the Give the touch judge a medal. thread discussing forward passes.........
We have a gazillion angles and as many replays at different speeds just to see if a ball is grounded on an arm or leg instead of the ground in goal yet we do not allow technology to review whether a ball is passed forward to a player near the line.

Maybe the time has come to add forward passes to the review list but put cameras on the touch judge's (and ref's) heads so the angle can be viewed from that of the official best placed to adjudicate (to assist them).

I would also have a drone above each in goal area filming straight along the line to assist these decisions. These could also be used to bring the audience a bird's eye view of trys and goal kicks from above the posts. And they can be used at any ground.

Then there is player gps tracking and ball tracking that could be added to determine ball trajectory as technology improves (if it's not available already).
