Siua Taukeiaho Signs

Bit like Steven Bell. Not just under rated by a little. Grossly under valued.
I agree but we all have different values and standards
The only standard that defines our legendary clubs Greatness
Is Winning grand finals

Wow okay, fair enough.

Personally, I loveed Rodney but wouldn't be in the top 50 backrowers I've seen. Withough making a list possibly not even the top 100.

But we all view things differently.
Yup, legend 2011 grand finalist :

I read that Taukeiaho has been a mentor in the past to May, so if he can get him to Manly will make his signing worthwhile. Otherwise he is another in the long line of over the hill signings that will not take us to the next level.
We have a pretty strong Tongan international influence
Hamouli
Tolu
Lehi
Taniela
And now Taukeiaho
So adding May could be on the cards
I think he's exactly what the team needs to take another big step forward

If we get both Bateman and May we are top 4

Bateman is a competitor much like Brown and he will lift at Manly

Do you remember when he came , from Penrith ??

I do , he was slammed from end to end on Silvertails , too old , too slow , too injured.

Ended up being a fabulous acquisition.

It's the same thing with the current Penrith squad who already have the player nucleus, mindset and knowledge of what it takes to win Grand Finals... So they can get fringe or average first grade players to walk into their squad and become premiership winners. Look at Alamoti, Garner, Momirovski, Sorensen, and others.

The difference with us is that despite all of our representative stars that we have, we're still looking for a player to "unlock" the rest of the squad and make us premiership contenders. I would suggest that this mentality is a bit wishful given the amount of salary cap space we have (or don't have) to work with.

And that’s the issue we really don’t know how much ( or how little ) we have.

The fact that we aren’t buying big name players suggests the latter.

This is on point for me, the representative players we have that take a larger percentage of the cap have not succeeded in getting the team into contention for a premiership.

The successful clubs shop and move players on that underperform or that have depth in certain positions Terrell May is an example of having depth.

Looking at the current squad the forwards lack quality and depth, there have been underperforming senior / representative players in the pack that need a tap on the shoulder.

To make room in the cap a player on decent remuneration needs to be shopped, otherwise it will be very similar results to 2024 if the club doesn’t sign a decent forward or two.

Let's put this in context - this is a signing in the 25th -30th player bucket of the roster.

Never going to move "the needle" but to give a guy 100k who is a premiership winner and hungry - then for me it's incrementally a step in the right direction.

I would rather gamble on a fit and virile Rookie with potential
Leaving aside your obsession with virility (not sure how you think females manage to pay rugby league??) ... Manly does sign plenty of young forwards with potential.

The likes of Bullemor, Kelma Tuilagi, Ben Condon, Aitasi James, Burbo, Schuster, Pua'avase, all signed by Manly when aged 21 or 22 or even younger. But clearly not every young (virile, lol) player with potential makes the grade (and some who do, take longer to get there.)

Also it's good to have premiership winning experience in your squad. I'm sure that was a factor in why Des signed Josh Perry, Shane Rodney and Joe Gulavao back in the day.
