We have had a failure of our DNS server whcih basically is a 3rd party server that tells your page where to go when you type in the URL.

It is causing some major headaches for a lot of people including me and Nate.

🙂

We are working to fix all this by the site will be down or fairly broken for the next few hours if not days.

Dan

and on this. You may be only able to access the site via http://www.silvertails.net and no http://silvertails.net

this is a bit of a mess at the moment so bare with us

I could get the forum index up earlier, but the link to the individual boards didn't work, all fine at the moment though

yeah it will be fixed shrtly

Nate to teh rescue 🙂

The dude deserves a beer! or a thousand

This is now fixed.

both
http:// and http;//www are now pointing in the correct direction now, however we are currently recompiling our server and we may need to make a further alteration, though we now know the fix 🙂

Wish us luck

I don't understand - you have a static IP address right??
Unless you change the IP the DNS should't change.
If you haven't got a static IP are you using something like Dyn Dns which takes a bit of time to update?

Cheers - Jerry

Well yes and no. We were hosted at a shared host. We moved over to our new vps host but kept the dns at the shared host.

Once everything was running on the new host we started moving the dns to our own nameservers.

This is where things went wrong the server here had corrupted dns settings. This meant that for some reason the cname for www was not routing correctly. We fixed the alias settings and it all was fixed, however there was a secondary issue where file ownership was not being assigned correctly. In an attempt to fix this I ran an ownership change but missed the ./ and put / which meant every single file in the servers OS and we have OS level access was updated to the wrong user.

There is no easy fix for this so we had to reset the virtual machine to a virgin state and start again.

DNS is a. Bitch, the domain part is easy, it's the server part

Login is now fixed.\

Jethro just brought it to my attention, it shouldall work.
You may still get "Ivalid Token" errors, just hit the back button and you will be right. i will fix that next week

Can't seem to get to the tips.  Keeps telling me to register.  I'm so far behind I don't really care anyway.

Make sure you login via the tips page and not tge forum I had to break the authentication apart.
