Sirro and Thommo - Key to success

Obviously the entire squad is what wins Premiership titles...but I noticed a clear steely improvement to the team with Sirro back yesterday, especially defensively and the crucial tackle on Rapana was a Ripper.
So many occasions the Raiders were setup well to attack and on the edges both Sirro and Thommo, closed them down and aggressively on most occasions.
They both continually put the hands up to do the ugly hit ups and play nice , hard and direct and fight to win fast plays every time....and controlling those edges and playing the henchmen for the halves - DCE, Walks and Croker who must feel pretty safe with these blokes next to them.
After this gutsy display there is legitimate hope Thommo may go out with a Premiership trophy and his partner in crime Sirro, has really improved as a player in recent times...they are both leaders and key to wherever we go in 2020.

Both great players, take hard runs when we in trouble and become good decoys for the plays out the back or short ball to turbo as seen last few weeks.
Tackle all day and are a good influence for Jake whos emotions can get the better of him at times.

Agreed. I was amazed at how many times thommo got the ball in traffic and just ploughed ahead and took the hit. It means that the edge defence of the other team always have to mark him which frees up space for the backs.

I've noticed other second rowers, notably parra, just amble up and stand among the defenders as decoys. Thommo never does that - he is always ready to catch the ball in case the distributor decides to go to him.

Sirro made a major contribution in both attack and defence all game.

I was just about to make a comment about Sirro especially, I think @susan wrote a few weeks ago about him being an unsung component of our squad, we rarely win when he's out.
His combination and obvious rapport with DCE stand out in both attack and defence.
To play like he did yesterday hitting it up without trying to be flashy and whacking in defence was enormous, then played great at centre when the game was on the line.

He and Thommo aren't the dynamic edge backrowers like Kikau, Taumalolo etc that get most of the accolades but they rarely, if ever go MIA during a match.

Both Key players for the team
Thomson’s one edge with toughness
Sirro on the other edge running great holes
Imagine how better Sirro would be without the injuries always disrupting a season , I think it’s been mentioned many times how he gets better once he gets a good run of games

Sirro's stock move of cutting back inside off cherry means that the defenders on his side have to stay focused on the middle, making more room for the backs on his side. I have really come to understand what Des is doing with both the second rowers. And both of them carry out the game plan very well. Thommo's replacement next year has big shoes to fill.

We have great second rowers.

Going to miss Thommo next year. Some big shoes to fill there!

Exciting times...!

Depending on how many forwards we have available we could see sirro at 6. He has a bit of nik kosef about him and id imagine someone in the camp has considered it.

Pretty sure he played there at the tigers a few times

He could be a useful stop gap for the first 20 or 30 minutes before injecting another player , then curtis moves up after the initial mayhem

Adds some overall variety to our game

Yesterday was a break-out game for Siro ... when he took it upon himself to have a crack at the ginger mungo ... he put his hand up for the 1st time and said I am now a senior member of this team ... with it he has gone to the next level ... I expect him to power on from here ....

Both Sirro and Thommo are 80 minute gladiators who always give 110% and hold our Sea eagle wings together
