Sironen

This sort of thing really irks me...it's just so out of line.

When you consider what Curtis gave us and what we gave him, the ledger is firmly in his favour. He was busted so often but we still paid his wage. He walks away with plenty of footy in front of him, having had his lifestyle funded by our club for 5 years. Sometimes, managing injuries is a risk you take in professional sport. Nathan Cleary just played the last 8 weeks of the competition with a busted shoulder. It's just what happens. You manage risk and reward and sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. It's hardly Manly not looking out for his welfare; this is professional sport.

His Dad is a drip.

Its always been a coaching nightmare trying to keep all of the parents happy.
I can attest to that ... I coached junior teams for 4 or 5 years ... some parents I never saw but they turned up when we made a gf ...and ... 'why isn't my son out there, he is better than that kid' ..... me 'How the f**k would you know its the first time you have come to a game and never to training'

I coach a heap of junior football (round ball) outside of the paid / "academy" system which is now the go. In my experience, it is so often from the parent, not the child.

If most parents understood that it is such a very small percentage that "make it" as a professional it would help to create balanced kids who enjoy their sport.

Yes ... and it wasn't like I didn't give his kid a run ... in that gf instance he was coming on after half time ... I always rotated to make sure it was fun for all the team ...at that age its not always about having the strongest team every week

After going on an all-meat diet Sir Loin declared it was the secret to him staying injury free.
He played us for chumps!

Paul Sironen also complained when Curtis couldn't get a first grade game with the Tigers, going to the media to complain about then Tigers coach Jason Taylor.

Notice this time he hasn't actually said anything about the Manly coach though. Could it be because he's mates with Des so is just blaming this on the mostly anonymous medical staff??

The story also all but ignores that without Manly throwing Curtis a lifeline, he might well have been either stuck at the Tigers, or playing in England long before 2022.

Cutris Sironen was/is/still can be a good player. He has the size and we know he has the skills. But the reality is that with the speed of the game now in the NRL, no other clubs took an interest in him because his knees are obviously far too dodgy for them to want to deal with. St. Helens in the Super League was the better option for him, since he didn't really have much else on offer. The allegedly softer English and French grounds should also be easier on his knees.

I wonder if St. Helens will see that he doesn't really have the pace to be an edge back rower anymore and will instead use Curtis as a middle forward? Possibly as a ball playing loose forward. Like his old man who got moved to prop in the latter stages of his career (in fact, the first coach to do that was Bozo on the 1994 Kangaroo Tour. Siro Sr. played 10 games on tour including 3 at prop against Leeds, St. Helens and Warrington), I think the front row is could be where Curtis is headed.

Either way, good luck to Curtis Sironen at St. Helens and thanks for your service at Manly.

That's disappointing, I would've thought Siro Snr had a bit more class, kept his grievances to himself and moved on.

It wasn't like Siro was on pittance, nor only with us for a year or two - he was on good money for 5 years. Does he think we're a charity or something? Fair's fair and we gave him plenty for not an equal return.

ave the Tigers a spray when Curtis left there too

How many times do you all think Sirro Senior has been hit in the head pre concussion protocols?
Leave the bloke alone. Sweet he defends his grown arse son.
In the end, they're just people.
