Siro

I thought he has been hampered a lot with injury this year, definitely affected his mobility. The last game against Titans however he reminded me what a strong runner he can be. He seemed to just be hitting the line harder and making in roads again. Pushing through the other side of tacklers and busted them open again. To me seemed like finally getting over his injury and hopefully back to his best next year. Been the problem this year, some players in form, others not then vice Versa. Never a whole team injury free and playing to potential.

Definitely this year lacked some go forward on the edges compared to 2019. We no AFB and game speeding up, hopefully we can get more out of our back row on the edges in 2021

I reckon Siro could/ should be a lock. He is getting slower and just gets in the way all the time on the edge. What are your thoughts on Siro to lock and Jake to prop?

Don't mind the thought of Siro at lock ... when he occasionally arcs up and has a go in defence, he is very solid ...

But, I know I will get some disagreement ... but I have never thought Jake either big enough ... or a powerful enough runner for Prop .... his game is not built on either metres gained or power plays ... it has been built on a combination of workaholic and skill ...

I was thinking this exact thing myself. We had some success with him as a hole runner near the line and it seems we decided to try that 100% of the time now. It is predictable and we need quick skillful edges, particularly in this evolving game which is geared towards speed. This would allow Schuster to go to the edge as a backrower, while Foran plays 6 and Cust 9. Foran can take Schuster under his wing and we can move him into the halves the following year after he has a year of first grade under his belt in a position that has less pressure associated with it.

Jake starts at prop with Marty, Siro in 13 with Paseka and Keppie rotating in the middle (Siro will obvioulsy play less minutes but that accommodates his aging body). Haumole can fight it out with Gosie for the other backrow position. If Fainu comes back he goes to 9, and Cust to bench. It just means we need another bench utility (not Crocker) who can rotate with Cust until we know if Fainu is returning.

We need someone or something new a lock. Let's be honest, Jake has had a stinker of a year. It's hard to identylify why, May be it's the ball playing which is stunting him. He's always been slow off the ground and good for a couple of ruck penalties. This year the 6 again rule has smashed him especially. He started the year slimmed down version of himself and he's seemed to struggle to bend a line all year. Now he's not even trying to go through it. With the game speeding up perhaps punching out 80 minutes week in week out is taking a toll.

The money he's on he has to offer more than he currently does. If AFB was on 800, Jake's on more than that. It's hard to keep both.

I'd be saying bulk back up welcome to props.

If the game doesn't get rid of the 6 again (which I believe the will) Then a more mobile prop is needed anyway. YEO takes Jake's spot in origin.

Siro played way more direct last week. Took a fair few carries into the meat of the defence early. Straight after AFB was leaving i was wondering if there was a prop audition in the making. He is on the wrong side of the field as a backrower as the inside ball is his go to. I havnt seen a deft pass to outside men in a while or even a flick

As a prop his assets are way more dangerous if you have a fullback like tom trailing up the middle, even DCE

There was just something about the opening 20 last week that had me wondering. He had intent in the middle

Im not really seeing him as an 80 minute man anymore. He can play 80 but the quality drops off a bit

Oue whole game was found out a bit this year. Sirro had a go but just didnt have too much impact

Yep, his game last week reminded me the bloke can be damaging when on-top of his game and runs hard. Let's hope he carries that through in 2021. Need more impact and go forward on the edges

100% agreed. I've been saying for a few weeks now that Jake should move to prop (now more so since AFB is leaving) and that Siro ... a former 5/8 who can still pass and kick should move to lock. And since he's already a forward he'd be good with the physical stuff.

As a ball playing lock I think he would be better than Jake. That would also mean that we would have a completely new (of sorts) back row in 2021, probably at this stage Jetski and maybe Olakau'atu.

I’d rather have a lock that’s not slow and doesn’t get in the way.
Well that's my point, I'd rather a 2nd row that wasn't slow and gets in the way. Easier to put him in the middle to just run. Get out of the backline. Why would you want that slow guy that gets in the way out wide?

It's interesting to read (and see) the 'over' used cut back inside move when in his early days he was a 5/8th. At Manly they said they've spent a fair bit of time turning siro into a 2nd rower... and maybe they've done too good a job as no remains of a 5/8 seems to be there.

I dunno..in attack I thought all second rowers had to do is run a line into a gap and yell at a half to pass them a ball = try.

Weirder still is when it works (like our game against titans? tigers? where we scored on the left doing just that).... the brains trust on the field think "ok...that worked...now lets definitely never try that anymore during this game."

Like each try has to be significantly different to the last.

It's raining

Personally, I’d prefer Schuster at lock as he is more creative/skillful and suits the new game style. He’s got some serious size about him too.
Well after listening to Des’ media conference today, it sounds like Schuster will get the 5/8 role with Foran and Cust at 9 and 14. Therefore, I wouldn’t mind seeing Siro get a crack at lock with Jake moving to prop as he plays there in origin anyway and normally plays very well. Then Jetski and Haumole could fill the starting 2nd row spots with Garner or Davey coming off the bench. Wouldn’t mind seeing that!
