Hi Dan, I think it's great idea and welcome any initiative and change with manlys social media and forums.. It surely does work but is a little clunky and looks like it belongs in the windows 98 era. Silvertails as an app that feeds off a Facebook page my suit both parties. Either way change is good looking forward to 2018
I need to be absolutely clear, we will not be feeding off of a facebook page. The idea isnt to leverage facebook at all, however it is to provide a site that functions in much the same way

"Dan : "It’s an interesting point of discussion let me play with the idea a little more and I’ll see what I can do perhaps I can run a background trial linked in to the forum discussions a little more with the posts on your feed coming from discussion of people you follow"

Enhancing interaction through technology must be something new to you, given you're the oldest supporter here?

This old fart Bearfax, is just about to turn 67...oh my aching back, my teeth, my arthritis, blood pressure, sugar level, reading vision, hearing...memory?

Yeah, what’s the Go with this Arthritis bull****?

I’m 62 shortly and have never had a problem , but all of a sudden the shoulder where I had to have a reconstruction starts aching like buggery.

Very unpleasant!!

What is actually the difference between what is now and what is Facebook like?

On this forum I can post stupid comments and images, can like or dislike other posts and respond to my fellow idiot with pithy one liners.

This is Facebook!

But one difference though - this is thread based often with ordinary headlines, and threads get resurected and have no internal logic.

Beta it. Develop or die.

Revisiting this as I crystalize the idea of a softer implementation of this.

It may surprise many of you to know that the structure and setup of this is already in place. If you look under the HOME menu, there is "recent activity" and "New Posts" and under the Forums menu there is "Watched Threads", "New Posts" and "Spy"

All of this works much like social media sites in surfacing information that you may be interested in.

What I am talking about doing is first Keeping the forums intact. You will still be able to post and interact with the forums exactly as you do now, that view won't go away.

Then I am planning on taking all of the above and moving them to a single page and formatting it in a way that is similar to the way you might see posts on Facebook, so that you can read the post and comment inline. I would then further enhance that page by building out specific algorithms that let you configure and personalise that page, so for instance you might choose to follow someone and therefore when that person makes a reply to a thread, a new thread etc, it will be bumped to the top of your "Feed" page.

The idea is that it make posting easier, and personalizes your experience. Overall it should enhance the experience for many without taking away the current experience for others who prefer traditional forums.

Additionally I am planning on removing the front page as it now stands in place of a feed page and encouraging people to post the link to articles as they do on Facebook and allow rapid discussion of that.

So for most of you there will be no difference, but for new users and for those who prefer that it should majorly enhance the way in which you interact with Silvertails.

Sorry. All I'm reading is blah blah.. Facebook... Blah blah.. Change

Wouldn’t that assume that the target audience is limited only to those currently in the forum and aged 40 and above?

No my target audience is “sea eagles supporters” and those of all ages, attracting new members should be in everyone’s interest we should be looking to get all sea eagles supporters to the site and broadening the conversations and information through that.

To sit and cater only for those that are here now is a pathway in one single downward direction of decline

Well then the idea of a vote is truly redundant .........................as the only ones voting are "those currently in the forum and aged 40 and above". ( a hint of disdain in the way that has been worded me thinks)

Some well documented theories to implementing change for customers;

1. Ask customers if they want a change, if they say no and you still change it, it creates resentment and customer loss

2. Just change it, you get some post change complaints but most customers will accept it, even begrudgingly (unless the change is too dramatic)

Strategy 2 is probably the smarter one when you already know or have decided what you are going to do.
