Shayne Hayne and Ben Cummins have today been appointed to referee the 2013 NRL Telstra Premiership Grand Final.

NRL Referees Elite Performance Manager, Mr Daniel Anderson, today announced the appointments with Chris Butler and Dave Munro to referee the Holden Cup Grand Final between the Panthers and Warriors, which for the first time will feature two referees.

This season Hayne became just the fourth referee to officiate 300 first grade games at the highest level. This will be his third NRL Telstra Premiership Grand Final.

This will be the second NRL Telstra Premiership Grand Final for Cummins, who officiated in last year’s decider.

Former Dragons and Bulldogs fullback Luke Patten will also be involved in his first Telstra Premiership Grand Final as a match official, joining Ashley Klein as the Video Referees for the match.

Anderson today congratulated the Match Officials on their appointments.

“The performances of the four referees last week was excellent, which made this decision extremely difficult, but Shayne and Ben have performed at a high level consistently through the season and they are very experienced,” Anderson said.

“The last time they were paired together was in the final Origin match and they performed well there and along with Steve Carrall, Russell Turner, Ashley Klein and Luke Patten they deserve the opportunity to represent the Match Officials squad on Grand Final day.”

NRL Head of Football, Mr Todd Greenberg, added: “Last night at the One Community we celebrated the achievements of our grass-roots match officials, who dedicate themselves to helping others play the game.

“It was a special reminder of the important position Match Officials hold in the game and on occasions like this we need to highlight the contribution officials make to Rugby League at all levels.

“Daniel, Tony Archer and Russell Smith deserve enormous praise for the leadership they have shown throughout the season.

“It is so often a thankless job but they and their team of Match Officials have contributed significantly to the success of this season.

“Congratulations to Shayne, Ben and all the Match Officials on their appointments today. To be selected to represent all Match Officials on the biggest stage in the game is a great achievement.”

Greenturd is bent on handicapping Manly

True, not too outrageous.... @BE

Bit heavy with the pea with us though, would dearly like Hayne to temper his pea, but let it truly flow wenst caning the Roosters!

Actually, sort the Against column in the penalties section, Manly is his fav to stick it up, even gave a few to the Northern Eagles the pr1ck...

Our stats under Hayne are pretty good

I thought the same BE. If I read that correctly, we have a better winning percentage under Hayne than any other team in the comp.

I'm not a massive Hayne fan but, as I said in another thread, I thought he and Klein did a good job in our Sharks semi. Cummins is the best ref currently IMO, so can't complain with either appointment.

That may be so, as it appears we can still win even though he penalizes Manly more than any other team.

Doesn't mean we can't win, just means we have to play doubly as well.

Foz just has to stay away from him - no backchat please!!!!

Wonder if Hayne is over his SBW man crush and is remorseful about the grid iron pass he let him have last week :-/

At least he puts the whistle away in the finals

Our record this year is
Hayne 2 wins, 1 draw, 2 losses
Cummins 5 wins, 1 draw, 3 losses.

My worry is that the roosters will play with constant little infringement like being offside most plays knowing that the refs wont blow many penalties. They did this in the first semi.

Pity Gerard Sutton isn't handling the match. We won the penalties 12-5 with he and Cummins in the Roosters 4-0 match.

I guess it is what it is. Come on Hayne, keep it real!

In hindsight, taking a couple of those opportunities for a penalty goal may have made the difference.

If they start doing it again early in the match, take the two. Giving up 6-8pts in a GF may have them better behaved which may create more openings.

Not overley happy about Shayne "John" Wayne getting the nod here.

This is the same imbo that was conned by bulldog Reynolds and ruined a beautiful comeback in the 32-30 game, and gave all those penalties to the bunnies that got them home on ths second meeting between the teams.

However, all the referees in the finals have put the whistle away allowing more intuitive calls in the play the ball and less breaks in play. Let's hope that continues Sunday.

Let's hope the refs are not noticed.

We did ok under Hayne and Archer in 08. I think if he has an issue with Manly, it relates to our pivot speaking out of turn to the referees.

Not the worse option.

From what I have seen this year the refs havnt been overly biased towards the chooks.

So hopefully we should see a fair game

Well surely even the bandits are sick of the SBW lovefest.....

And if I see JWH walking around in budgees one more time I'm gunna throw up!

For those who haven't seen the press conference after the appointment of the GF refs, here is Anderson, Hayne, and Cummins, talking about the big day.
