BRUISING prop Epalahame Lauaki has passed his first big test with the Sea Eagles.

Blindside can reveal the club’s new signing was secretly flown over from New Zealand last week where h

e was put through a typically gruelling session by head strength and conditioning coach Donny Singe.

After arriving at Narrabeen at 8am Lauaki discovered why Singe is known as such a hard taskmaster.

“It wasn’t easy for him but he got through it OK,” said Sea Eagles recruitment manager Dave Warwick

“He hasn’t been in an NRL environment for a while he won’t take long to get up to speed.”

Lauaki is a former New Zealand and Tongan international who played 69 games for the Warriors between 2004 and 2008.

He played for Wigan in Super League last year and will arrive back at Manly in the next week or two.

He has been recruited to fill the role left vacant by the forced retirement of Richie Fa’aoso.
