Problem is we have to offload a few dollars to keep Snake & as much as I like Kitey, Brett is THE main man.
Some forget Kite came on board the same time as Kennedy who took most of the spotlight. Both BK's imo helped turn the Seaeagles into the yardstick they have become in recent years.
MB introduced me to Kitey after a match against the Storm & he was clowning around with my young boys making them feel at ease & showing his strong values are real.
When you talk of champions, this bloke is in the leading catagory for mine.

does anyone know what the deal is with the cap? wasn't it supposed to go up next year?
@globaleagle may have the lowdown?

Well, it's supposedly increased to 5 mill for 2013 (ave of $250k per player) but, looking at our top 20, I think we've probably spent it and some. That's of course if the reports of contracts are right and Schubert not accepting Snake's contract.

If you look at our roster, of the top 13, only 3 have not represented their country and only 1 is not an SOO player at some time, either reserve or otherwise. It's pretty hard to keep that under a cap! Thankfully Hip Hip is on reportedly $65k which helps but he won't be after his contract runs out, if not before. He's only going to get better with more confidence. If only T-Rex ran like him!!!

Add to that who we've signed from the Warriors, Chee-Cam and the juniors we want to keep and it's .....difficult.

I just read that they might be after a cheapy like David Gower from St George.Would he fit in the team?

A little Hat's Journey:

In a far off factory,
Hats as far as you could see.
Sitting there safe and sound,
No one else for miles around.

Then one day a little hat,
Cute as a button and not too fat.
Did see approaching one big man,
Who grabbed him roughly, with his hand.

Into a box the little cap went,
And down to the post he surely was sent.
As he left he heard other hats yell,
Have a great life hat, we wish you well!

Before he knew it, he'd arrived,
Thanked the Lord that he'd survived.
He wondered who his new owner would be,
After his long journey over the sea.

Arriving on the doorstep he waited with dread,
If the new owners had dogs, he'd be better of dead.
They chew and they bark and most of all poop,
Kids aren't much better, I'll give you the scoop.

The box slowly opened, he opened his eyes,
His heart lept in bounds at his wonderful surprise.
As he did not get sent to some hat chewing beagle,
Oh wow! My new owner, it's the famous...Globaleagle!!!

He picked me up and smiled with glee,
Hello Hat, he said, You'll never leave me.
We'll have adventures, amazing they'll seem,
And finish them off with a shot of Jim Beam.

William McGonagall I believe?

William Topaz McGonagall (March 1825[1] – 29 September 1902) was a Scottish weaver, doggerel poet and actor. He won notoriety as an extremely bad poet who exhibited no recognition of or concern for his peers' opinions of his work.

:(

And after I wished you a happy birthday.

A mate of mine is a little in the know at the Tigers. Latest scuttlebutt from his information is that the Tigs have put up Matt Groat as part of the trade for Kite.

Pass thanks.

Take if it means we keep Snake

I'd give a no name rookie a run over Matt Groat, seriously

Who has the groat photos? I love how groat shows remorse when he makes a mistake. He has a very expressive face. A heartbreaking expression on his dial as he turns to face his team mates.

You have too much time to spare GE :)

Pretty clever poem though. Well done.

P.S. you mis-spelt "off" in the 5th verse :p

Thanks mate!

I wrote a poem about misspelling the word "off" once.

;)

Sad to see him leave, but that is the cap. At the start of the season if you told me we would upgrade both our halfs, plus new deals for ballin, matai and snake then i would take it. So far we have lost lussick, oldfield with trex being the big loss.
Given the **** fight hasler caused in get out clauses on his way out we have done very well. We have had our largest membership ever.
Kite will always go down as a legend dual title winner, played origins and test footy, over 250 games. The guy is a smart front rower runs good lines, a perfect foil for our in your face king who runs into the heat of the battle.

However i think where there is smoke there is fire, given the departures to free up cash at wests they are clearing the decks you would say for kite, and given he stated to the media who would need double to leave he may get that now at wests.

I am confident we can cover his loss with in the short term Joe up front(hope the achilles is ok for next year), and young guns such as sao from the warriors, trbojevic and cunningham. Certainly with the playing group we have young kids will step into a totally different environment than choc had too in the early days and for that matter snake.

We can cover his loss, he has certainly done his part to make the club so successful but i believe we can cover his departure.

Go Jethro.

Jethro cured me of my usage of off and of. Should be more of it on this site.

Mine was just a typo. :p

But again, cant Kite take less money ala Matai if he wants to?

Or is it out to pasture time?

Great servant to Manly!

So, people are writing off a 19 (yes, 19) year old prop (he recently turned 20).

The kid is 6 foot, 3, and probably hasn't properly grown fully yet (is 110 k/g's as it stands).

He's played and was selected in the Under 20's State of Origin.

He is also a fitness trainer, so one would assume he'd be a fit type of guy.

PS: Everyone knows how much I love Kitey by the way, and my preference would always be that he remain. But if Donny Singe and Geoff Toovey can tap into a very young potential prop, maybe longer term that could work for us?

I wouldn't be happy about Kitey leaving but if Matt Groat was to fill the void i wouldn't be disappointed. As Ryan said, he played Toyota cup soo this year so there are better judges out there than you blokes. Including me and Ryan. lol

I agree Ryan. Its taken a while but Ive learned that picking the up & comers from afar is such a hard thing to do, we make fools of ourselves more often than not.

He enjoys the beach so he has every chance in turning out to be a rare gem under someone like our Donny.
