Schuster

Schu is blessed with many assets that made him standout at the junior level.
This does not include toughness and desire, so unless his mindset changes....expect constant disappointments for the minimum time on the field and reoccurring injuries.
Personally wish him well, but that's how I see it.
Bennetts ability to manage players give him the best possible chance, but only time will tell if that's enough ....

I feel like all of his assets suit juniors. Off the cuff Vision gets trumped by effort and well executed structure 9/10 times at top grade.

A decent proportion of his off the cuff no look passes went straight over the sideline too.

At his best he is a genuine match winner, but I think we saw that in maybe ten matches when he was in first grade with us.

Some of his worst contributions were definitely his yahooing after being involved in and/or scoring a try. There was a game against the Chooks at the SCG where we were thrashed and he was having a shocker at 5/8. Towards the end of the game, he scored a chip and chase try and was really thrilled about it. It said to me that Josh was playing for himself, not the club. There was a little bit of Latrell’s 100th try vibes going on.

It’s not even really his fault…when you grow up being told how special you are and you suddenly find yourself among lots of special talents, it can be unnerving. I could be wrong, but I wonder if Schu’s histrionics when involved in a try, were cathartic, i.e. a sense of relief that the wonder boy might just be able to transfer his junior success to the NRL.

The no look pass is more of a weapon when used sparingly, but not in every play when the Schu had the ball.

It's like when you sell that clapped out old Hyundai. Oil leaks, dodgy radiator sus gearbox. You are just glad it's now someone else's problem. Such a relief seeing it drive away. Same with Shoe.
Agree except we could not give the hyundai away - in fact they would not even come get it until we agreed to pay them monthly holding fees for the next 2 years!

I prefer we put our eggs in the hopoate basket. I loved the shoe in second row and could handle the no look passes. But he had a very good crack at first grade and didn't play for the team. He played for himself. We got better service from the ultimate journeyman himself Brad Parker for less than shoe cost us.

Can't see Schu playing in the half's next season now that Souths have signed Jayden Sullivan as well.

Looks like he is destined for 2nd row/ bench at best.
I reckon Schu needs to just put his head down, forget about the no lookers and work his arse off...

I can almost guarantee that Wayne is not bringing him into the squad as a key ball-player right now... he will be a lower grade player that is seen as a potential link-man in the forwards if he shows he is going well...

He needs to follow Cartwright's lead imo... get his career back on track first and then he will eventually get the opportunity to show off some of those silky skills that we know he has... there is no point having them whilst you are playing xbox on the couch though...

Pretty sure he's on little more than minimum money at Souths. Remembering, he's getting 200k from us, every season till we've payed him out. Bennett would be content to just have Schu as a depth player that could possibly pay off.

Not sure about the smart arse reply Who. Just pointing out Schusters situation, maybe a few don't know the circumstances on Schuster leaving us.
Doubt if Souths would have offered or been prepared to offer the Shu much more then a minimum wage and if he just short of say 400 K [ combined with his 200 K Manly payment ] for the next couple of seasons , he has done well at least in the financial sense
Also naturally considering his very patchy and indifferent form and availability the past fewf seasons .
Just had that drop off in form in late 21 and combined with injury , has never really got back to his quite impressive form level from most of season 21 .
No idea how he may go in the future , not the only very promising footy player over time who may not progress from a good early start but nevertheless , unfortunate when it does occur

Despite Manly terminating Schuster’s contract in April this year, The Daily Telegraph’s Michael Carayannis believes he could return to his best under Wayne Bennett.

Schuster has signed a $200,000 contract, which Carayannis describes as a cut-price deal and a great opportunity for both the Rabbitohs and Schuster heading into the new season

Anything but a "smart arse" reply.
I've not heard anything about us paying Souths $200,000 a year to take The Shoe. All I've read is that we paid him out $800,000 to get him off our books.
If you know, or have read, something different please post it so I'll be correctly informed.

Where did I say we are paying Souths 200k a season for Schuster ? And we haven't paid Schuster out. I said Manly are paying Schuster 200k per season until he's payed out, we put in 400k for Schuster for the 2024 season gone, as per deal done by us to release him early. Nine Sports 24th April.
...now you've been correctly informed.
