Based on what has already been said by the club, I’d say the most likely scenario is for an offseason announcement that next year will be Seibolds last one in charge, and that Ennis will take on a full time assistant coaching role in 2026, with a view to taking over in 2027. Seibold to move into some director of coaching/football dept type role. Ideally, the announcement would also include some wider shake ups of the coaching dept, with perhaps someone like Ballin brought in as an assistant, for greater succession options.

The only other avenue they could take would be to blow the place up and start again, but I don’t see much appetite for that.
To me it really feels like Matty Ballin is going to be head coach next year and the Ennis idea has had cold water poured on it - I could be wrong.

I’d much prefer Ballin over Ennis. May come down to whether Mestrov stays or goes.
I'd take either at this stage, it's just unfortunate we are always pinning our hopes on untested candidates. Wish we had a plan to identify a high performing assistant at a successful club and give them a shot in a calculated way rather than (1) eh, he's already here, give him a shot, or (2) he used to play for Manly, he'll do.

We did go back to Des (before Seibold) who wasn’t exactly untested. But yes, not many experienced coaching options available by the looks. I still maintain Des was shafted last time around and our problems since then largely reflect an insecure coach who has ceded power to bigger personalities in the playing group.

Plenty of good judges(and bad) talking up Willie Peters,a former Manly assistant

Sacking the coach can change things,if your next appointment is the right one.The last 15 yrs have been blighted by wrong coaching appointments. Those decisions come from the powers that be,but appointing Barrett,Des again and Seibold were all obvious wrong moves that I’m sure most of us Manly fans could see were bound to be failures.Im even dubious about Tooves appointment given he hasn’t managed to find another NRL head coaching position since. Look at the Dogs and Ciraldo.Granted they have the brilliant league mind of Gould in their corner(no matter what you think of his public persona).Warriors/Webster are turning things around and there will be a close watch on Parra in the coming years
In both clubs you mention there were also changes at the top , rich benefactors & a complete change of players ( Bulldogs more so than the Wahs).

In addition to new coaches.

My point is changing the coach only will have little affect , and I’ll stand by that.

BUT

If we were to get a rich benefactor , and went with a complete rebuild keeping only our hot juniors , and we dumped the football department & replaced with a build from the new coach , then absolutely yes we’d be a strength again within 3-5 years.

Which really can't and won't happen - sadly, your point is all too true Mark.

Let’s forget about the Penn’s side of the argument because changing an owner isnt as easy as changing a coaching/player and the Penn’s are “rich benefactors”.
Ciraldo/Gould cleaned out the Dogs squad and bought the right players to suit their situation.Webster hasn’t managed made subtle changes to his squad but it’s been mainly good coaching that’s elevated them.Ryles is in the process of changing things up at Parra,to the point he offloaded one of their big names. I can’t see what the Penn’s are doing different to other owners, other than coaching appointments

Whilst ever Ebenezer Penn is eeking out his profit he won't sell and won't spend the $$ required to get the club to the top. You are correct in saying changing the coach with the same players won't change the results. We have to build a team from scratch like Des did from 2003 , suffer a season or 2 of pain till you can expect results. Penrith, Dogs, Raiders, Warriors now Parra have or are doing it.

Mate I wish it wasn’t , but it continues to amuse me the many comments on here completely ignoring the genie in the bottle.

Change will NOT happen because the experts on Silvertails want it to happen , it’ll only change if the owners want it to !!

A better approach would be a coordinated plan to strip the Penn’s of income , in essence a members revolt , cancel your membership , don’t buy merchandise , don’t attend games.

Once they stop making money things would have to change , until then I’d suggest its status quo.

Fair enough , I’ll still stick to my opinion that diddly squat will change with a new coach BUT, if that coach sits down with the Penn’s and says “ we need to blow the place up and start again , and if Scott is onside with that , who knows “. But boy oh boy it’s going to have to be one mighty strong coach.

I have never seen only a coach replaced. The sacking of a coach usually results in a cleanout of the entire coaching department.

Losing a bit of faith in Seibs and the general coaching staff ability to get the best out of the side and gelling but still have to take into account the extenuating circumstances with player or key player availability and performance level or consistency for a good part of this season
Tent [ long term ] and now Haumole out ,and highest paid players - Turbo with his range of general problems and hardly anywhere near his best except for round one , D C E almost a liability these days and a quite indifferent season , Jake always a whole hearted effort but just not able to warrant his 950 K contract value and limiting other good quality forward signings
Can "t really dispatch Seibs to the exit lounge for a while yet and probably really only able to get a clearer perspective depending how the remaining games play out

Nobody is ignoring the fact that the owner is an important part of success/failure - we just don’t believe that a magic “genie” will gift us a new owner any time soon, so see no point in continually talking about it.

I don't know whether seibold is a good coach or not, however when comparing our roster to the roosters, it is pretty clear we were over-matched. On paper, there was no way we should have won that game.
agree 100% (as disappointed in the effort of some) when you look at their starting forward pack versus ours and then you bring on Watson ,Radley etc its a no contest everyday of the week. Its nearly like simple maths and their pack adds up to a lot more than ours in every respect .Id go further and say that there would be not one Manly forward that would make it in the squad for that game over and above their rorters counterpart.(maybe TKO on the bench on his current form )
On top of that Walkers short kicking game tortured us everytime .
Is all of that Siebolds fault I dont know, but to lose thru injury Paseka ,Aloai,Schmole, lesser extent Croker and now Burbo has to count for something.
And to have no 2nd row back up other than Waddell ,I find unbelievable (even though he has played ok the last few weeks )

Even so, without a player cleanout the same , lethargic , flat track bullies will be on show with , at best , marginal improvement.

Let’s look at our recent history

Tooves , inherited who was left from Des , failure.

Barrett , can’t remember but would have brought in people loyal to him , no great changes in players , failure.

Des 2 , brought in his own group , no great changes to players , one year of success due to that incredible run from Turbo , otherwise failure.

Seibold , has his own group ( Dymock , Ennis etc etc ) , 2 years , zero success , and if he goes through to year 3 ( same players ) it’ll be ditto.

Let’s face it , we have a few very good backs , some average backs , and not much depth.

Our forwards , Ola aside , would struggle to get a start anywhere else. Jake ( love him for his loyalty ) isn’t the Jake of 5 years ago , probably only has a year or two to go , would be worth keeping for his Manly spirit.

The rest ?????

We just don’t have players to compete these days.

If the conditions are perfect for them , Sunday sunny day , at home they go well BUT the moment you throw any adversity at them they crumble like a pack of cards.

It’s a sad , sad situation for our once proud club.

Tooves wasn't a failure. His worst finish was ninth.

Barrett was a failure.

Des was more successful than Seibs and a pass considering he dealt with covid and had us tracking to make the finals for the third time in four years before we self imploded.

Seibs is a failure.

I think it's just out of frustration and hope. We don't see much hope in the team or our current recruitment "strategy", so we have to find it somewhere.

Also, speaking personally, I really dislike Scott Penn's face.

Also in most instances where a new coaching team comes in, there are players tapped on the shoulder and others who are recruited. Seibs has recruited Woods, Simpkin, Paulo, Lodge, TKO, Brooks, Brown, Chee Kam, Willett, Jazz, Schoupp, James, Matterson, Talau, etc.

He released The Fainus x 3, Schuster, Keppie, Lawton, Tuilagi, Tuipolotu, Weekes, etc
