XV-1

First Grader
Hmmm. He was poor tonight, as well as last week since he returned from injury.
Why does he still have a giant bandage on his knee ,especially since it was only a medial knee injury.

Like I have been saying for weeks now....

Other than his pace, what exactly does Tolu Koula offer as a footballer??
Koula is a talented footballer, has ability to burn defenders.

He has been out of touch this season playing left centre, played most of his first grade football as a right centre and the move this season hasn’t seen him kick on another level, fullback is probably his best position as we seen when he got a run there last season and a couple of games this season.

He is in is third season in the top grade and at 21 years of age has had to develop his game in first grade due to his class, watch the games he has played at fullback and you will have a visual of his abilities..

He does have pace, but not much else and his football brain is almost non-existent.

Just on his 2 games at fullback at the back end of last year ... as has been pointed out a few times, they were against the teams 16th (Bulldogs) and 17th (Tigers) on the ladder respectively and both were literally marking time until the end of the season. Neither offered up anywhere near the same level of defence say ... the Bulldogs of 2024 would. They gave Koula that room to run and TBH it made him look better than he is.

In other games he's played there during his career though, he's had nowhere near the same room to run for the most part. And as we have seen both with Hopoate, and once again for the umpteenth time with Turbo ... there is a lot more to fullback than just having pace. Being able to be in the right place to back up or make breaks. Bring able to position others for them to make breaks. Having a football brain, more than makes up for the pace. And that's just in attack ... there is also defence to consider.

Tolu Koula is little more than an athlete with pace and to be frank, we'd be better off with him on the wing than at centre.

Some are jumping the gun again. He's just returned from a serious injury and we are expecting immediate star quality performances. Seems many were suggesting the same problem with Turbo...until he had a few games under his belt and felt free to run unhampered. Patience.

Another centre who should be on the wing. We dont have any other centres that are any good.

I hope that Talau’s pec injury is low grade as mentioned. He goes straight in for Koula. There were three instances last night that should’ve never happened, regardless if he was under down with injury.
1. Retreating passively in our 10, while letting the inexperienced lightweight Mason to get around him, and he wasn’t strong enough to stop Mason from sliding in.
2. Getting the ball 12 metres from the sideline, and gets rag dolled over the sideline.
3. Letting a shank kick from Galvus bounce in front of him, then reaching for the ball, but too short to get it, and falls for the Tigers.

You put Talau in any of those situations and it doesn’t happen.
I think Talau is the most improved player in the club.

Clayton and or Schoup as replacement centres if, as it seems Rueben is going to remain right centre, if Talau not fit bring Lehi in to centre from wing and put Ray Ray or Clayton on wing
