Roy Masters on Player Managers

read one of his articles about how the player managers from the parra scandle as far as salary cap goes. He believes of the original 10 managers many have slipped the noose and only a few may be sanctioned. He alluded that some managers have dirt on the greendick from his doggie days and that it is more than a coincidence

Its a good read in the Smh. He makes other points on the fact managers get 6% of a contract and 20 % of a tpa and many managers block sell players in the stable and essentially blackmail clubs into taking others. The cap playing field is already skewed wirh managers taking a chunk of tpas we all know where they want players to sign. And it it any wonder they dont care that clubs sort them out

Why are RL players so dumb they can't negotiate their own contracts?
Tell me, is there a Silvertails poster who uses a manager to negotiate their employment deal?

Awesome to have Roy Masters speak out about the corruption, blackmail and duty dealings within the game. Especially the mention of the shady Greenberg in powers.

I don't think its a case of NRL players being 'dumb' to negotiate their own contracts but in any professional occupation managers are worth their weight in gold only if you trust them. Its easy to be mismanaged in a business aspect as their is a motive to go against the clients interest to milk a situation. Placing players where they don't want to be, creating tension and using leverage to work in their favour.
I use a manager for my line of work and I'm lucky to trust him enough to put me in the right place. The relationship between player and manager needs to be healthy as at the end of the day the client is the one in demand and needs to be treated correctly. It will all come back in spades.

As soon as you employ anyone with the word agent or broker in their job description it becomes all about the money - there should be little surprise that $$$ are their motivating factor and that they will employ whatever tactics necessary to maximise their return.

"However, the anticipated penalties will disappoint many who have been waiting for the NRL to reform a group rarely criticised by journalists, who rely on them for information, and by clubs, who are scared of retribution."
This is why it's virtually only Roy Masters who ever reports this stuff because all the others are nothing but gossip journalists. They are the lowest of all sporting journalists world wide and one of the reasons the game is such a mess - there are no independent onlookers to hold those who run the game accountable.

It seems the days are long gone where most N R L player managers have the best interests and welfare of any respective player or client as their main consideration and above or even equal with their own . That is if they ever really did in the first place. Are a reasonable number of N R L players capable of negotiating and managing their own contracts and arrangements , surely one would think so .

With their income being percentage based, gee the managers have hit a home run with the salary cap doubling in the last 5 years.
